A 6 year olds insight | ADHD Information

My daughter told me while talking that when other kids make too much noise or there is talking going on near her she has a hard time paying attention.  She told me that is when she gets frustrated.  My daughter is going into an inclusion class next year, i am so proud of her. I did snuggle with her and explain to her about her ADHD in a way she can understand.   Now I question is her meds working?  She is on Concerta if she is telling me her difficulties.  I am expecting a call from her doctor tommorow I can ask him.Brandon said that has the same problem. He takes Ritlain. What's an inclusion class?
What's an inclusion class?
*An Inclusion class is a smaller class size room where the children have various learning disabilities.  It is combined so some are on the first grade level some on kindergarden and my girl will be a 2nd grader all work at their own pace on their own grade levels.  The ratio is 1 regular teacher, 1 special education teacher, and 1 aide.  All my daughter knows is she is going to 2nd grade and my heart is breaking for she wants to move up with her friend Alexis.  Alexis has been in my daughters dance with her and her kindergarden and first grade classrooms and looks out for my girl.  She is such a sweet girl at least they will have play dates this summer I already spoke to her mother.  Alexis's mother is aware of Annette's ( my daughters name) ADHD and is okay with it she likes my girl.   I told both of them every year sometimes you have same kids in your room sometimes you get new kids.

Jillette, where I live what you decribe is a "special day class." It's outside of the mainstream, and inclusion is in the mainstream.

My 7 yo says the same thing about the talking in class...which is why I suggested headphones with a white noise CD.

Background noise is extremely distracting when you have ADHD and are trying to concentrate. One of the first things I noticed when starting medication is how much better I was able to deal with that. Instead of the noise coming and my brain automatically just turning off, and getting instantly irritated...it changed to me being able to process the noise and filter it through. It is still mildly irritating to me though.

If it's a big problem for her, to the point that she can't concentrate, then her medication may not be working real well. If it's just that it's a bit irritating but she can still continue to concentrate, then it's probably normal.

I would definitely talk to her doctor about it.

Very insightful of her :)

That is not my understanding of an inclusion class. As I know it, an inclusion class is a regular education classroom that has some high functioning special ed kids and includes an aide for the teacher. That's why it's called inclusion - it includes special ed kids, and is not mainstream or special ed only.

My son has always complained about having a very hard time concentrating when other kids are talking.  As a matter of fact, the majority of his discipline problems in school stem from his frustration at all the noise.

In our school district in Florida those classes are called co-teaching or something similair.  My 14 year old is in a co-teaching class for language arts and math.  There are a few kids with ld's, a bunch of kids with no issues, and then a few advanced students.  The kids who need the extra help usually get the most attention from the second teacher.

Julie you described inclusion as I know it...

Jillette your class is a different description  of inclusion...have not heard of multi grade inclusion class before...let us know  how it works out.

My daughter is in a regular classroom, and she has always complained about other children talking and making noise.  She is on Adderall XR.  She complains also about the noise level on the school bus.
