I’m proud!
My husband and I both majored in English/writing in college and dh makes his living writing. Well, here's a poem Patrick wrote for his poetry book (he got1 00%). This is an alliterative poem.Patrick paced through the palace, Police gave Patrick a glance of malice, Police pursued Patrick on a police chase, Patrick punched policemen in the face, People watched in horror, As Patrick jumped into his car of torture Another police chase occurred, The policemen's faces were obscured, Police cars had him surrounded, But off into the park he bounded. Pat's 13yo and oh, by the way, SCHOOL ENDED TODAY! He did a fantastic job with that poem. You may have a budding poet on your hands! On the off chance that he is harboring anger he is afraid to show, I would encourage him to write in a journal. He can do it in poetry form if he wants. The point is to get him to express himself and what he is dealing with so it isn't building up inside of him. If you see a lot of violence and rebellion in it, you can then use it as a way to open a discussion just by asking him if he wants to do those things or just thinks its cool to write about. My son loves violent ps2 games. I was very upset with my husband for getting them for him and allowing him to play them but for him they have been cathartic. He deals with a lot of rejection and self esteem issues and its a way for him to get them out of his system. I also use them as an opportunity to discuss the difference between fantasy and realitly. Being tuned in to possible but unlikely problems is a good way to ensure that you spot and nip the feelings he is dealing with in the bud. Good job! And I'm glad to hear he made friends this year and will miss them over the summer. Quite a difference from last year, huh? It sounds like he had a great year, and that's wonderful news. GOOD FOR YOU ALL That's wonderful he has the ability to write poems. I could not write one to save my life. It's real talent I think. Doesn't the contents of the poem disturb you a little? Great work! Don't let the content bother you: he was trying to be alliterative and he's a 13-year-old boy. What's he going to write about, flowers?! Okay, I thought that too when I asked the question, 'what would a thirteen old boy write about?' Still the phrases, 'punish a policeman in the face' and 'car of torture' would have me questioning my son. And I understand that boys will be boys and their fascination with certain topics. That's wonderful he has the ability to write poems. I could not write one to save my life. It's real talent I think. Doesn't the contents of the poem disturb you a little? [/QUOTE] i have to agree.....i feel people write poems about their feelings...but he is a very good writer... tell him to keep it up...if anything it will help him express his feelings..Good poem. Tell him to never do that. He's going through a car-crash, bang-bang shoot'em up type phase right now. He was working real hard to get the alliteration and rhyming. He's a softy in real life. Yesterday was the last day of school and when he called to check in, he started crying 'cause he was going to miss all his buddies over the summer.
