Did he pick his fingers before the meds?

Yes, he did pick some before the meds but not as much as he does now.  I honestly think it's the dosage of the concerta that is part of the culprit.  While he was on a lower dosage, he picked but not too much.

His not wanting your son on meds should definitely give you the encouragement to tell him. Moreso now than ever, those meds might be his (and your) saving grace.

I agree here 100%.  I'm currently waiting to get a callback from a doctor for CBT for my son.

Hello all!

My name is Michele and my 7 1/2 year old son was diagnosed with ADHD when he was 4 1/2.  He is currently on 54mg of concerta and I think it's doing well.  He was recently diagnosed with OCD, Separation anxiety disorder and social anxiety disorder.  Cameron constantly picks his fingers and worries about everything.  I haven't told my husband about the recent diagnosis that my son has received and not too sure if I will.  He seems to think that he's fine and wants him off of his ADHD meds.  My problem here is the fact that my husband doesn't want hin on ANY medication at all.  I, however, feel that he needs to be on meds.

Did he pick his fingers before the meds?  My son used to pick at his fingers and act anxious ( he was on strattera and concerta) ...we took him off of both of these and put him on Adderall..his fingers have cleared up beautifully and he does not seem anxious ...I don't know which med was the culprit but one of them was making him worse...

I would think that you would want to share the new diagnosis with your husband ASAP. Especially if your husband believes your son to be "normal" and without any "problems". (I didn't say that in the most politically correct way, I realize that. I was just trying to put into plain language but never to diminish the seriousness of the diagnosis.) His not wanting your son on meds should definitely give you the encouragement to tell him. Moreso now than ever, those meds might be his (and your) saving grace.

Good luck..

Concerta can definitely exacerbate anxiety, which is why your son may have all these "new" diagnoses that may actually be attributed to the Concerta.  I'd recommend either lowering the Concerta dose to see if your son's anxiety lessens, or consider an entirely different ADHD med.  My 13-year-old son has anxiety and ADHD (as well as bipolar disorder), and this year we stopped stimulants altogether because they were making him too anxious.  It wasn't worth it to us.
