My daughter is so rigid she does things in her order and if it is not done the way she wants to we get screaming tantrums. Examples is before she will do as requested she will not stop what she is doing until she feels she is done and if you make her stop she will give you such a behavior, very stubborn. When she is hyperfocused forget it you are asking for trouble. My question is it almost seems like she has some form of OCD at times or is it her Oppositional Defiancy coming out even more. Examples of the OCD someone one day at the park told her about 3-4 leaf clovers now she has to stop everywhere to look for them and spent an hour picking clovers. We have no flowers for she keeps picking them and has to give them to everyone it is her obsession trying to pick every flower. Those are some examples when she gets stuck on something she goes into it full blast. It is getting worse and meltdowns are happening daily and I really do not think it is her meds because she has been on them over 1 month and it is happening now. It is like she has such a strong will and definetly a mind of her own and I am ready to rip my hair out and I worry about the upcoming years. I have adressed my concerns with her psychologist but he has yet to explore what I am saying. Could she have something else going on or is it all behavior attached to the ODD. Or is all of this just ADHD and ODD?
Yes I am confused and want answers. I am planning to call her psychologist again and request further testing but for what? If I have confused all of you I apologize for I am unsure what is going on myself. I just feel something may be going on and just do not know what.
Yes, it could be OCD. OCD is a form of anxiety, and yes, stimulants can exacerbate anxiety so it COULD be her meds. In your shoes, I would want her evaluated by a child psychiatrist and/or neuropsychologist.I will talk to her doctor as well as current psychologist. I am also in process of trying to get her into a university study which they wil do a full work up on her as part of the study. They would follow her in school weekly and provide the school with a behavior plan and help us in the home, cover the meds for 3 years. and send us to parenting classes to help us deal with the stress better.More than OCD, it sounds a lot like high functioning autism. I highly recommend going to this board and reading the posts. ADHD and HFA are similar, but different in treatment. A psycologist is not really qualified to diagnose and would certainly know only very basic stuff about ASD, unless he were a NeuroPsych. Here's the ASD Posting Board link. Parents there are very friendly with feedback. These kids are often diagnosed ODD when, in fact, it's their fear of their rituals and sameness that is interrupted that causes extreme anxiety to the point of raging. These kids need interventions early on for the highest functioning as adults. Please do yourself a favor and research. And don't trust the psycologist. Most ASD parents had no luck with them at all.

I have similar problem. Yesterday dd played with her cousin. Child start to sing some silly song repeat it few times and let it go starting new conversation. But my dd didnt wont to stop so she repeat damn song for 30 times but then started to sing it louder and louder until we all were get frustrated even the little cousin.
When I ask her to stop she start to scream...and it happens all the time...
She is ADHD and we are supose to take her for full evaluation, this summer.
There is a budding school of thought that ADHD is on the Spectrum. There are too many similiarities. However, kids on the Spectrum also have obsesions, more severe social issues, and other differences. If ADHD is on the Spectrum, as some researchers suspect, it would be a more mild form of ASD. I suspect sometimes that ASD interventions would help kids with ADHD, and certainly ASD kids are often misdiagnosed with ADHD--precisely because of some blatant similiarity. Added to the confusion, stims often help autistic kids too, although not my son. The alelged ODD is often when a parent tries to stop a kid from enjoying one of his obsessions (which may be repeating words or phrases over and over again, switching lights on and off, snapping fingers ad nauseaum, stacking blocks for hours, making high pitched sounds, etc) or when a child is "stimming", which can seem like misbehavior. These are VERY rigid kids who can't stand for things to be changed around and they tend to also be very literal. And they have trouble sustaining give-and-take conversations. I'm sure many kids diagnosed ADHD on "on the edge" of ASD and would do well with ASD interventionis. Just some info. OlderMom38883.2169444444
