what now? | ADHD Information

Focalin made my kid throw up. Adderall was almost as bad. Now, we're on Concerta. 18 mg did nothing. 27 mg doesn't seem to be doing much beyond suppressing appetite and disrupting sleep. We'll probably be bumped up to 36 mg. If that doesn't work, what's left? Since Concerta's a form of ritalin, I kind of figure that ritalin and metadate are pretty much going to be the same thing.Strattera might work. Its not a stimulant, which is what separates it from all other add meds. I didnt have a good experience with it, but thats just me.Is it possible that your child has been misdiagnosed? Just curious. My youngest son was originally given adhd meds with the same types of effects: they either had no effect or they made him worse. Turns out, he's bipolar, and the meds used to treat adhd actually agitate a bipolar child. Hope this helps.

Thanks, but I'm quite sure he is ADD. He hits EVERY single sign of ADHD inattentive type, and does not have rages or obsessive behaviors (believe me, I count my blessings every day). The focalin and adderall did GREAT things for him at school, except for the dizziness, weakness, dry mouth and vomiting. The teachers saw a huge, vast improvement in focus, attention and social skills. We just upped him to 36 mg of Concerta yesterday and I think I saw some sort of difference - it seemed to take the edge off. We'll have to wait until school starts in September to continue mucking around with meds - I guess we'll be staying on Concerta 36 mg for the summer. This is a great forum.
