Stimulant medication, unlike Straterra is not age or weight dependant. Sometimes its a long journey to acheive the right med and the right dose as it's all very individual when children are put trhough a trial of meds with stimulant medications. If your child's behavior is the same on and off medication then that suggests that the medication is not effectively managing the symptoms of Adhd. Normally if the medication is effective but the child is experiencing rebound when coming down from the medication, the protocal is prescribing a short acting Adhd medication to eliminate the rebound effect but if you see no change in your child's behavior on medication, a change needs to be made. It's always wise to get a second opinion. Good luck and please keep us posted

He is on Concerta 36 since december, at first it seems to work very well but now it is difficult, i saw his doctor who is a child psychiatrist last week and told us because morning are very difficult and when medecine start it is easier he said he would keep him on that and want to add strattera at night and i refuse to do that. I think i will go for a second opinion.

That seems like an awful large dose for a child of that weight. When I was 6 I was taking ritalin, and that worked great until I became tolerant and needed to switch.Hello,
I hope you will be able to help me. My 5 year old son is getting me crazy. He is on Concerta 36mg which is a high dose, he is only 47pounds.
Is this normal he can be very lunatic, we talk to him and he answer yes, yes but he wasn't focus at all, if I ask him to repeat he will be unable(still on medication)
I'll give you an example of what happened yesterday:
He would like to go to the park, there was a fun fair, I said ok but we need to do work and take dinner before and I said you must be focus on your work if you want to go there.(it is a game he needs to focus on it, I have to give him 3 thing, like you go to the grocery and you have to buy an apple, bananas and a white bread, so he should take the 3 cards with these items and put them in the same order I said, it is not long it is to work his concentration.) He wasn't concentrated at all. I gave him 2 chances, I explained it again and again(and he did it previously). SO I told him: I'm sorry but we won't go, it was like I didn't say anything.
SO after that we started to take dinner, he went to wash his hands(and I didn't have to repeat it to him like as usual)and started to take dinner and suddenly asked me ok are we ready to go now? I said no, i told you before dinner, you had to worked well and you didn't, I gave you many chances!
Oh, he was angry, and said no,no no mommy, no no, like if since the dinner he was suddendly focus. My husband decided to give him an other chance, and he did it well. He was concentrate on his work.
Is this normal???????? how can I explain that, He was still on medication(concerta is active until 7-8pm with him. It is always like that. Focus, not focus, focus. Good days and bad days..... The morning routine is the worst part om my day, i'm gone be crazy. He can be sit at the table to eat for about an hour each morning, and I have to repeat a lot of time, eat, stop talking or singing. And he is not there for an hour because he eats a lot, no no!!!!!!
If an adult with ADHD an on medication and like my son can explain how he feel i would appreciate it.

well my son is 5 also and on 18mg of cocerta just started a week ago and doing great so far and is 45 pounds.
first. how long has you son been on concerta?
have they moved up in his dose?
pulse my Dr works very close with my son on his meds and requests to see him every 2 weeks to 1 month.and tells me that ANY change in his attitude or behavior to contact right away do not hesitate.If you have not already contacted your Dr then u need to do so immediately. As something can be going on with his meds.and if you have a problem w/Dr get a second opinion !!!!!!!
