Adderall IR or XR? | ADHD Information

Has anyone taken both the instant release (regular Adderall) and Adderall XR? I currently take 30mg of the instant release twice daily, but I hate having to remember the second pill. I also don't like having to carry meds with me, particularly since I don't take the bottle with me. Technically, that's illegal but I'm a guy, where would I put a prescription bottle? Although it would give me an excuse to buy that Kenneth Cole man-bag I've looked at.

Seriously though, has anyone here had experience with both and can share the pros/cons of each? I'd really appreciate it.If you're already taking the XR then I don't think theres much that regular adderall would do. Maybe take 60mg once in the morning?

I take 30mg XR in the morning and 15 mg IR in the early afternoon.  I metabolize the meds very quickly.  The XR only gives 5-6 hrs of coverage for me.  I did notice that I had fewer side effects with the XR.

I keep a prescription bottle with a few IR in my *locked* desk drawer at work so I don't have to mess with remembering to take it with me all the time.

I havnt tried regular adderall in awhile and only take xr. i should try it.adderall ir...... i was on adderall for yrs.. decided to try xr and its not as strong... i still feel good.. but it doesnt have the boost regular adderall does... xr does last a little longer but its not strong enough... i have more evergy on adderall... adderall xr should be just for kids in my opinion ya know up to about 17 yrs old.. adderall i think should be for adults 18 and up.. i strongly believe that....AllFiredUp

I've tried both. Started on the IR, switched to the XR, then back to the IR. I only had 6-7 hour benefit period with the XR and felt at times that I had too much in my system -- as if the second part of the dose hit while the first was still strong. With the IR I get a solid 4 hours and can sometimes wait 5 hours before I absolutely need another IR dose.

With the XR I noticed a smoother effect, however, due to the poor benefit period I went back to the IR.

I keep a small supply in my brief case and that works well for me. If you don't have much space, you could try a small pill case with enough for a day. Your pharmacy carries them. I've even seen small ones that connect to a key chain.

na its not the same.. im back on regular adderall today, and i feel much better... you should definetly try regular adderall.. i felt slow and sluggish on xr... and it didnt last much longer.. i like all of it in my system at once... i feel great today now that im on regular and not the xr.. but some people like xr better.. everybody is different.. i like regular adderall better though..its really the same thing just the xr is made for the second half of beads (stuff inside the capsule) to dissolve 4 hours later than the first half.....hmmmm i guess i should try regular.hey euphoria.... adderall xr is weak ya know... its still aight.. but regular adderall is stronger and gives me more energy i tried xr this month noticed i didnt have as much motivation or energy im going back to regular adderall and i will stay on it for the rest of my life... i dont like that time release crap ya know i want it all in my system at once.... take regular adderall its much better....
