It is worrying how the docs in america medicates so young and so many different drugs.
have you tried any natural remedies for the sleep problem like melatonin or passiflora comp.?
i should add i am not against meds,i think if there is no other choice then yes you should go down the meds road but as such a young age maybe trying therapies and natural remedies can't do any harm.
since my son is only 4 we are doing this ,if it doesn't work then in a year's time we will try the meds.
scotmama38885.0146759259Thanks for your remarks The Clonidine has worked amazingly good but the nights he was waking up and not wanting to sleep and the reason he was put on this was for that we were gonna up it even more but he was seeing smoke and spider webs so they thought he was hallucinating and having night mares and wanted to stop the night dose because of that. I like the Clonidine and they wanted to stop it all togather but his days are awesome so we are trying the Trazodone because he wont sleep and the clonidine was making him see things. We have tried the Trazodone two nights now and so far he has slept but he also has woke up early for the day but its better than being awake all night. Thanks alot.
I have not tried many natural remedies I tried a herbal one called Focus Attention before I seeked assistance from a doctor and it didnt help any at all.
Thanks for all your imput.
My son 5 years hold, has now started another medication, this makes two he is on now the first time he has had to be on two meds. We started with Strattera and had no results, then we tried Adderall and his aggression got 100 times worse, then we now have been doing Clonidine for about 5 weeks and it has been great that he is not agressive and less hyperactive, but then we have the sleepless nights like he and I would only get 2 hrs of sleep per night because he refused to sleep they added a Clonidine dose adding a night time dose making that he receives it four times a day, then the sleepless nights continued but with dreams and night mares so we stopped this and added a new drug Trazodone to take at night. Now he takes Clonidine three times and Trazodone at bed time. I get nervous every time they change his meds. I like the Clonidine it has worked great and dont want to stop it if we can work out the nights. I trust his Psychiatrist but I get nervous still if Im doing the right thing and if he will be okay, has anyone used these two togather or seperately and can give me any imput on them thanks it would be great. MelI never took it, nor did my kid, but it's an antidepressant (Trazadone) whereas Clonadine is a med that lowers blood pressure often used for sleep. Some doctors also use it for ADHD, although the psychiatrist we used to go to (no psychiatrist anymore) didn't care for it for ADHD. However, that doesn't mean it isn't a good med. It's just that doctor's opinion. OlderMom38884.7924421296LOL..no, it's not selfish. We need sleep, even when they don't :)Thanks alot for your reply I just worry about combinding drugs and after the Adderall and how outraged he got I was and am afraid to try anything else, and the Clonidine has stopped the aggression in general but he dont sleep now and its selfish for me to say but I would like some sleep.
Yowza, careful with trazadone, I took the wrong dosage one time and was asleep for like 3 days. I don't even wanna try to take the right dosage and risk that happening again. That is very odd that your son had the reaction of not sleeping on Clonidine. My son takes it expressly at night to help him fall asleep. He's out like a light about 30 minutes after taking it.
The way it's been explained to me is that Clonidine "shuts the motor off" for ADHD kids, but it does nothing for attention and focus. I think that's why you're seeing less hyperactivity.
