I feel your pain lol. Every day it is the same with us at our house. My ss is nine and i have learned that everything in the house has to be turned off. no tv no music no pet nada. you might want to try what i have started. i've a some success with it. not all the time but most of the times. we set a timer on the microwave for like ten mins when he is eating and tell him that is how long he has. it seems to help get him motivated most days. we use the timer on most things that can take a while like eating or showering (he'll spend over an hour in the bath if ya let em) good luck with it. don't know if it will work for you but anything helps.I've been reading a book called From Chaos to Calm. The book talks about getting kids to do what you want by incentivizing them. For example, setting the kitchen timer, tell him if he finishes his breakfast before the timer goes off, then he gets a reward of some kind. The reward has to be something he would really want to work for, also. ADHD kids have no sense of time, so having the kitchen timer for him would be a good visual reminder. My son is the same with his evening meal, he wont sit still, moan he doesnt like it when i know he does, we make him stay there untill he has eaten most of his meal, he's skin & bones so its only recently we've been making him eat his food.I have the same prob with the eating. we have to force him to eat. My ss is nine in august weights 49 lbd. his doctor is pretty much freaking about it. he says he has a stomach ache or he doesn't like it to keep from eating. i feel bad for forcing the eating but if he were to get a major illness he wouldn't make it through it. glad to hear i'm not the only one with these probs. Ya'll are making me feel more sane. thanx!
I have the opposite problem. Brandon will eat very quickly! He eats what I give him and wants more. I give him a fairly large portion. I have started to give him less food. Then I tell him to wait and see if he feels full. I don't want him to struggle with his weight like I do. Anyone else have this problem? Ithink he's very hungry after his ritalin wears off.My DD used to drag through ev erything in the mornings too. I discovered she wants morning computer time. So we started a new system. I get her up a little earlier. She has to to be completely ready (eat, dressed, hair brushed, etc) and THEN she may have computer time until its time to leave. She quickly figured out that the less she complained & the more effeciently she got ready, the more time she had for the computer. Now there are no more morning arguments!
Thank's for your answers, I'm not alone!!!!! but it is very difficult to stay calm in the morning, and I NEED CALM in my morning routine, my son is my opposite!!!!!
I tried to encourage him because he like to watch TV, but it doesn't encourage him to go faster in mornings! I will look for the book chaos to calm!
Thank's
Nath
After 2 mos using ograms marble system this charade stopped for me never to return. I think she bumped it recently.
Yeh i have the same problem as well, my son will sit there in the mornings and stuff around and annoys his sister so she won't want to sit at the table and eat her breakfast either, i try getting them up one at a time and then getting one kid ready at a time so there are no distractions, my daughter gets up at 6am every morning so we feed her get her dressed and get her ready for childcare and then she goes and plays in her room for a bit while i go wake up my son and becasue his a constant bed wetter he has to go straight to the shower and then get him dressed and then i sit at the table with him until he has finished all his breakfast. If i don't do this all hell breaks loose and then i can't even get ready for work on time. My ds had a problem with getting a shower and getting dressed. Now, after 7 minutes the hot water gets turned off and he can finish rinsing in cold and after 20 minutes to get dressed, he leaves the house however he is dressed and he can finish getting dressed in the car. We call that "Clothes to go."
