I have been having some very strong anxiety attacks. Is it ok to take xanax with ritalin?

As always - check with your doctor.  Anxiety is a part of ADHD very often - but can also be too much or too little of your medication.  Amphetamines can cause anxiety but with ADHD it usually has the opposite affect.  Check with your caregiver to be sure.

I've heard many here talk about the fact they use an anti-anxiety med along with ADHD meds so if your doc says ok than you can feel safe.

When ADHD coexists with Anxiety - Strattera as a sole agent may be helpful. A clinical study showed that Strattera plus placebo did as well for ADHD plus anxiety as Strattera plus prozac.

Usind a medicine like xanax, lorazepam (i.e. benxodiazepines) should ideally only be used intermittently or in the short term, because they can be habit forming.

Using an antidepressant is more ideal - like the lexapro that was prescribed for Warman, because it treats the anxiety over time, and has no addictive properties at all.

Of course therapy for Anxiety is very important as well, and CBT is considered to be the best.

It probabbly is if your doc says that it is.OMG...I just realised i answered my own question from a month back...
Guess im pretty f**ked up in the head. Sorry all... :(
My bil takes 3 meds a day. 1 for adhd/anxiety/depression. BN ivanhoe38969.456724537After my initial medication i started having periods of high restlessness and sleepiness. I felt ocasionaly very optimist and euphoric, one minute and depressed shortly after.

I visited my doctor and he changed my Xanar XR from 0,5 to 1 mg per day and switched Lexapro 20 mg for Zoloft 150 mg. Im still taking 30 mg of Ritalin LA daily.

I feel that the effects i mentioned earlier are diminished but as i aproach exam time again it appears has nothing has changed.
I still cant study because i am phobic of failure and i have the compulssion to do obssessive yet useless things in order to diminish my anxiety.
The only real change is that i am now perfectly aware of these things...

With 2 weeks to midterms and my life hanging on the balance i am just desperate here...

I take xanax along with adderall and it's a nice balance.  My Doc says it's OK.

Wow, I'm surprised there weren't more responses to your question!  I too experience some pretty severe anxiety attacks now and then (all new since diagnosed with ADD and suddenly seeing all the undone sh**t around the house and getting overwhelmed with it all...etc..).  My doc prescribed Lorazepam to take when I feel anxiety coming on.

I too have strong anxiety attacks along with ADHD.
My doctor told me that anxiety is EXTREMELY rare on its own and is usualy associated with some form of disorder like phobia or OCD.
Anyway, my doc put me on Xanax XR, Lexapro and Ritalin LA. But xanax is adictive and usualy only works as a temporary patch.

Kenny 35:  what is "cbt"?

Sorry for not being clear enough.

CBT = cognitive behavioral therapy. This is a well researched therapy that helps anxiety and depression, when it is part of ADHD or not.

If you google it, you will probably get a much better description then I can fit in here ;-)
