Adderal & weight loss | ADHD Information

My son started Adderal (10 mg) one pill a day back in Oct 2005.  In May we switched him to Addreal XR (15 mg) because he was having a big drop off in the afternoon.  My son is 10 and he has lost 7lbs since Oct 2005.  He is currently 62 lbs and 55 inches tall.  I know this is a common side effect but does it mean we should try a different med?  He has had great success with Adderal I would hate to start a new drug.  We plan on giving him a vacation in July.  My biggest concern is the weight loss.  He is in the 5th percentile and looks very  skinny.  Any suggestions or advice is greatly appreciated.  Thank you.........Colleen

I hate strattera, it made me VERY sleepy. It's pretty normal but on vactions he doesn't HAVE to take it because its not like there's schoolwork he needs to get done is there?No school work or intense concentration.  I am just freaking out over the weight loss.  You can see all his ribs, clavicle, hip bones.  He looks so malnourished.....I'd suggest evaluating his diet first.

I've always been somewhat underweight. I have found that a diet that's very high in protein while having moderate levels of carbohydrates and fat works the best for me. After I started focusing on foods like fish, chicken, pork, steak, eggs, milk, yogurt, cottage cheese, a variety of veggies, etc., I started putting on weight and feeling much healthier. I gained 15 pounds, which brought me from being seriously underweight to the lower end of average.
