Social Interaction | ADHD Information

People who struggle with NonVerbal Learning Disabilities do reflect weaknesses in their ability to read facial expressions, body language, and the nuances of social interaction.  Intellectual testing weaknessses are evident in the areas of visual information processing and problem solving primarily when compared to their verbal ability scores.  This statistical difference in abilities is often evident in the test scores of Asperger's children.  However, the social difficulties demonstrated by Asperger's is generally more severe and characteristically disruptive as compared to the visual weaknesses of NVLD.

Weakness with interpreting facial expression and social nuance can be understood as a difference in thinking modality.  NVLD people generally rely on stronger verbal skills due to their weaker visual processing skills.  However, NVLD people can strengthen their weaker social skills with practice, and generally without medication.  The same is not often true with Asperger's.

[QUOTE=jfla2]I have recently become more interested in my son's weakness in reading body language and his expression of facial expressions and body language.  Here are some links to an article describing it and helpful suggestions.

I welcome all comments and suggestions

That sounds alot like NVLD (non-verbal learning disability ) to me. I have a friend whos son has NVLD & he displays the same symptomes. Heres some info:

Kids with NLD are very verbal, and may not have academic problems until they get into the upper grades in school.  Often their biggest problem is with social skills.
