I have a 8 year old son who is ADHD. We have done concerta and now we are on Adderal. it seems to help well but he has side effect of belly aces. our physician wants to change his meds once again. they really help but i am having a hard time wanting to change tem once again and with the cost of meds i pay a month. i want to try something else. we have talked in the past about omega-3 but how many should he take? this is fish oil 1,000mg: epa 180 mg, and dha 120mg. omega -3 is 340mg. i would also like to start giving this to my 7 year old who is showing signs of adhd. please help.
thanks

Don't expect much, if any effect, from fish oil--based on my experience. I've taken 1-2 fish oil tabs (same potency as you mention above) every day for the last year in order to reduce my cholesterol (there, I do think it helps significantly). I was just diagnosed with ADHD and have been on Adderall for about three weeks.
Now, it's fair to say that since I had no idea I had ADHD when I started taking the fish oil, this comparison by me of the effect of both is skewed. But, the difference is like night and day! I will continue to take fish oil to keep my cholesterol as low as possible, and for the general good health of my brain and body--not because I have ADHD. It's the Adderall I will take for calming my brain and allowing me to focus.
