Any poisioning is bad. My bil got paint fems in his body by sleeping in a home he panited. Also had no electroloites either. At first they thought bp. He still acts bp today. It only takes a litle exsposure to hurt anyone. Are you aware mercury posioning sounds just like asd symptoms.

hi april
my son had very high lead poisening - 30 at age nine
months. he is six now and shows similiar behaviors
as your son. i have been helped by parenting
classes and ocupational therapy. school has been
difficult so it's great you found a good one.

us as parents know paint is bad to eat but kids think mmm what's this and start eatting it and don't think to stop when they are told no... Are doctors helping you out as much as possible?

Yes they are helping me now that I am going to Kennedy Krieger. At first no one was helping me. I had and still have questions about him. David is very complicated. It is going to take time.I posted a update. He got it by typical paint-chip nibbling. We had no idea it was there. I figured it didnt taste good and he would stop. But he didnt.

MomWI, Kennedy Krieger is a facility in Baltimore, Maryland, internationally recognized for diagnosing and treating children and adolescents with disorders and injuries of the brain and spinal cord.  Wildman02 will get a very thorough evaluation for her child there.

They dont know. It could but they said time will tell. Alot of help arnt they?!

Wildman02, I am curious, how did your son actually get into the lead?  Was is from breathing dust, or did he do the typical paint-chip nibbling?  I don't really hear of this much anymore, are there really many houses that still have the lead-based paint unrectified?  A few years back, my son and I did a lot of shooting, and reloading, and we both probably had a lot of lead exposure with all of the handling.  I had his levels checked and thank goodness they were alright, but I did wonder if some of his troubles were from lead exposure from shooting activities.

I am so sorry this has happened!  Best of luck on your appointment.

My name is April - im new at this. My son is David. I feel like I am drowning. My son is SO difficult! He had bad lead poisoning - 31 count-when he was 1 1/2 from our old house. Of course we moved. Problems started instantly. He stopped talking and became so hyper. He is my first(and only) child so I didn't know how children his age act. He went to child find last year and it did a world of good. But problem came up in school. Impulsiveness, Never been able to sit still- always squirming and fidgeting, difficulty playing quietly, ALWAYS on the go. The worst for EVEYONE is he scream all the time!! He screams so loud and high that it hurts your ears. I have the biggest headache at the end of EVERYDAY!! I tell him NO- he screams and sometimes he gets in the mood -even if I give him what he wants - he still screams at the TOP of his lungs!! For hours he can do this. And its all the time. He knows what I am saying he responds real quick- if its something that he wants. He talks all the time - no alot but you can clearly understand him. I have tried 1-2-3 magic, taking things away from him - even spanking - NOTHING fazes him. I have given up. I am a stay home mom with him. The state has declared him disable from the lead poisoning. All I hear is mama all day- he wants this and that- he makes me feel bad for trying to do something by myself (like on the computer) and not putting my full attention on him. I try to play with him but he cant sit still to finish anything. I gotten him candy land (he knows his colors) and other my first games but nothing. When his dad gets home from work I flee for my life. We only have on car so its hard to do things. When I do take him to a playground he wants nothing to do with the other kids but wants me to play with him instead!! What is going on with that? He has a half- sister from my hubby shes going to be 11 he will play with her but only for a short time then he wants her to leave the house! I don't know what is going on with him?! He is going to Kennedy Krieger July 10th I pray they will help us. For you how are not familiar with Maryland it is a Institute that specialises in children with learning disabilities. Can anyone shed a little light on him and help me? Sorry I didn't make one thing clear- his doctor 'thinks' he had ADHD because that is the #1 affect from lead poisoning and he is doing everything that ADHD children do. I don't know what he has but I wish I did!

I live in Maryland and know that Kennedy Krieger is an excellent facility.  I'm sure you'll have your answers once the evaluation is complete.  I do think you may be looking at a disorder beyond ADHD that may in fact have started with the lead poisoning.  I'm sorry you're struggling -- I hope you get some answers and then the proper interventions to meet your son's needs.  Please let us know what happens after the appointment.

I will do so. Thank you so much for your support:-)

Sounds like PDD/autism, not ADHD. Some autistic kids who previously talked stop talking around the age your child did. They are also very hyperactive. I would post on this board and see what the people there have to say. ADHD does not include speech delays or regression. Does he talk now?

MomWI38898.5001851852If he had bad lead poisoning, you're looking at issues above and beyond ADHD.  His pediatrician shouldn't be diagnosing him, it's good you're going to a specialist.  Hang in there, you've just got 10 days until the appt.  I think that's going to tell you a lot. Yes he talks all the time. As soon as he lead test came back normal he started to talk. As long as the lead was high in his blood and effecting his brain he was a mess. That was around the age of 2. Now that he is 4 and 1 year of school from Child Find behind him he is counting to 15 and talking really good. Its when he gets mad or is in his moods when he screams uncontrollably.Since the medical problems here could complicate things, you may want to seek a multi-disciplinary evaluation at a university or children's hospital. In this, a group of professionals look at your child. Screaming uncontrollably isn't really related to ADHD. Did the doctor tell you if the lead poisining episode caused any permanant problem?
