You can use anything soft - pudding, yogurt or applesauce to sprinkle. Someone here uses peanut butter.
I had to get my son to learn to swallow pills, since the Focalin and Adderall didn't agree with him. He swallows his pill when I tuck it into pudding.
If you want to practice swallowing pills, use candy. Some people use M&Ms. We used smarties. One technique is to start practicing with really small pieces, like ice cream sprinkles. After the child has succesfully swallowed the size 5 times, you move up to the next size until they are up to an M&M size.
My daughter was on Adderall XR 10 mg for a few months. Side effects were too much so we stopped. Now we tried Focalin XR 5mg for the first time today. I could not even tell that she had taken it. Her ped. said that there are only a few different types she can take because she can't swallow pills. I have sprinkle the contents of the capsule on a spoonful of applesauce for her to take. Is this true? Are there any other meds that can be sprinkled besides these two. Are there liquids or chewables? I will probably call him Monday to see if we can up the dose to 10 mg.
I know that we were told in the beginning to try 1 capsule and if needed add a sedcond dose. Unlike your experience we've experienced success with 5 mg. of F XR.
I think you are doing the right thing to talk to the doctor about adding a dosage. I got the impression that this was the only medicine out there that you could sprinkle. Don't know for sure, though.
We sprinkle our son's dosage in anything soft. His favorite way is with yogurt. We use the low carb Dannon product to mix his. We found giving it to him in a variety of ways gives him variety.
