Your experiences (success/failure) with this med. Also, if you've taken both, which do you prefer and why.

I've only been taking meds for a little over two weeks.  first two weeks on Adderall, 10 mg up to 3 per day.  Shifted 4 days ago to XR, 20 mg. in a.m. with one 10 mg regular Adderall late afternoon if I need it. It's really too early for me to do comparisons because I think my body is still adjusting to this type of medication which I've never had before.  Compared to the same 20 mg. dose of regular Adderall, the xr "ramp up" is way more subtle, as is the rebound which for me follows about 7-8 hours later (even tho, supposedly, there's still plenty in your bloodstream).

I have been taking Adderall XR for about 21/2 months, and have gradually increased from 20 to 30 mg.  This is the only med that I have taken, as I am newly diagnosed.  I  am not nearly as lethargic as before meds, and I feel that I am thinking much more clearly.  I am now able to complete tasks from start to finish most of the time, which is a major improvement.  I do feel that I am not quite to my optimal level as of yet, as I notice the effects beginning to taper off after early afternoon.

I take 30 mg Adderall XR in the morning with 15 mg IR in the afternoon.  I have tried taking equivalent doses of IR.  The effects are pretty much the same for me, with less appetite supression on the XR.  The main difference for me is, I don't forget my doses as there are fewer opportunities to do so with XR.

Welcome to the board! Keep us posted.

I've tried both. Started on the IR, switched to the XR, then back to the IR. I only had 6-7 hour benefit period with the XR and felt at times that I had too much in my system -- as if the second part of the dose hit while the first was still strong. With the IR I get a solid 4 hours and can sometimes wait 5 hours before I absolutely need another IR dose.

With the XR I noticed a smoother effect, however, due to the poor benefit period I went back to the IR.
