StratteraALAPHRENCH, Get a new doctor! I don't mean to be glib but if your doctor is resigned to only using those two medications and nothing else to treat ADHD it maybe time to get a second opinion. There are three types of ADHD (Attention Deficit, Hyperactivity and Low Impulse Control) where one type may exist by itself and/or two may exist together (My son is hyperactive with impulse control challenges). The reason I say this is because each condition responds differently to different types of medication. In addition what may work for one child's condition may not work for another child (age, sex, weight all are additional variables). ADHD is not black and white and often other conditions may also co-exist with it. Just read other postings and you'll see how often ODD or Bipolar conditions are also involved. Additionally your doctor may believe that your childs condition is not severe enough to require meds beyond what he has prescribed. We've tried Ritalin then move to Concerta and after being plagued with sleep and eating challenges finally moved on to Strattera. Things are stable and eating and sleeping are back to normal. Talk with your doctor and find out if there are other issues that are influencing his decision other than perhaps his personal prejudice towards a particular medication. Paul I asked my sons doctor about this medication and he is totally against and is only for medications like rittalin and concerta. Any advise, thoughts, ideas on this?Thank Goodness for that medication. My daughter is like a new child. The school says she has caught up on her learning and may come out of Special Ed!!Dale46, Congratulations to you and your daughter. That must make her feel so good. Our kids need more moments like this. -Gettingagrip-So far, fingers crossed, my son is doing very well on Strattera. I truely hope this is the one. I agree with Paul, if your dr. is closed minded get a new one! |
