Crawlers? | ADHD Information
He is very tall and his legs are very skinny. Last year, the ped told me that she was not worried b/c he is SO active, but I am worried now- We go for his 6 yr checkup again on 8/4 and, he will be 43 pounds - same as when he was 3yrs old- he keeps getting taller & taller but weight is the same. He does not eat! I just found out from his friends that he throws his lunches out at camp and only drinks the water bottle and the watered down gatorade (50% gatorade & 50% water) that I pack for him... And, then dinner is a battle... I will see what the ped says on 8/4 for his 6 year checkup (and I can ask today since I am going for this adhd evaluation with the Vanderbilt tests and basc scale tests)... And, dear husband- I would have never figured that one out and just realized where you are all getting the adorable faces ... Fun- that made me feel better using that!ddietmeyer, just to clarify, the Bender program is the crawling program. You have an appointment already set for this? That is great, but in the meantime, as you wait for his other evals, I am sorry for your frustrations! I wish I could be of more help. Again, thank you for the advice. I am desperate and want to try the meds but my husband is not willing yet. He is afraid of the side effects (ticks, loss of appetite b/c he has been 43 pounds for the last 3 years, sleep problems which is already a huge issue, drug addiction, etc). We did start taking Fish Oil- Omega 3 Carlsons brand.. I think that is the name of it and he gets 1 tablespoon/ day but it has only been given to him for 2 weeks now per the directions of our chiro. And, we are trying other supplements with minerals but the chiro had to order it but it should be available to us today. I have the chiro appt followed by the pediatrician appointment later this afternoon. I will get a lot more details about various meds and side effects and he will get his physical with the ped appt. I agree that meds are needed NOW because this is effecting his self esteem now too... He gets in trouble all the time at home, summer school, and camp. I can't continue like this... The crawling technique is scheduled for Aug 17 and does not want us to start meds until we try her program- the program lasts 8 months- I can't imagine living like this for another 8 months- I will go CRAZY! I am already depressed over this whole issue.... This is a terrible waiting game... Having to deal with these problems and not being able to get into professionals for months on end... I will look into the bender program as I have never heard of that before....Who deals with this child most often? If it's you, dh should either allow meds or be willing to trade places. Have you talked to him about what his specific concerns are? Have you researched those concerns? Most of all, get a dx from a neuropsych! A pediatrician isn't trained enough in these issues and neither is a chiropractor! You talk about how hateful he can be, think about how unhappy he probably is. This kid needs hours of testing to determine what his problem is, not 20 min with a chiro. It's time for you to kick it up a notch! Get on the ball and find out what's wrong before you try to fix it!
I am sorry but I don't know what dh means? I am a little offended because I have done exactly what people have suggested... I do already have an appointment with the psychologist who is doing neuro psych testing but it is not until July 26- we have been waiting for months to get in.... The chiro was made with the hopes of seeing improvement while we waited the 3 months to see the psych. but we have not seen any results in the last 7 weeks... I have made all the apts that have been suggested by people here on this website but it does not happen overnight- you have to wait to get in.... I was hoping to get some positive feedback while I have to wait still until JULY 26th.....IMac38944.8352314815
7 weeks is not a lot of time to see if the chiropractic will help. It takes a long time for the body to make changes and to heal. From being in the business, I know of many chiropractors that will treat children at no charge, so if you are finding some value in it with his other health issues, it might be worth making some calls. The ones that do see children like this, would be most happy and interested in helping you.
I'm with Imac too. And, he might be just a tad young for the Bender program, I think there was an age where they start, but not sure. I would suggest getting that good physical exam with the labwork. It sounds, also, like he might have the Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD) component also. If you are interested in the Bender program, it can be done for next to nill with the book and the CD, which was double helpful. There were some children on the crawlers unites threads, I'm sure you would be welcome to private message them and ask them how it's going.
If you are intersted in another alternative method, many behaviour isses have rectified or lessed in intensity with some of the supplements like the high EPA ratio omega3, and magnesium supplements. The omegas take about 3 months for their full effect, and if he's on meds or starts meds, he can take any supplements right along. Just some more thoughts for you. More hugs.
calicorose38904.7626041667I have to ask why you are hesitant to try meds? I know that there are a lot of thoughts on the med issues out there but in my opinion if a child is struggling as much as it sounds your son is ...meds should be given a try. I posted a new topic in the alternatives section; however, it seems like a lot of the people who tried the crawling were older... My son is almost 6 years old and unofficially they (school, and my sister who has a Master's in learning disorders and behavioral problems) think he is ADHD. We tried chiro treatments for 7 weeks and they have not helped... We tried the change in diet and again, no change.... He is actually getting worse... And, now, we are thinking about the crawling technique (Stopping ADHD by Dr. O'dell).... This is our last attempt before we try the meds.... Has anyone tried this with a young child? My concern is that he is SO DEFIANT that I don't think that we will be able to get him to do these exercises 5 days a week for 8 months... He fights us on everything- summer school, eating, bedtime, bath/ showers, etc, etc.... Any thoughts or ideas??? THANKS..IMac38944.835
