NJRobert,

We are also giving our 9 year old son 40 mg of Strattera in the morning with his breakfast.  I know what the doctors say about it always being in the system but it takes a good 1.5 hours before we really notice that the Strattera is working.  Then right before dinner we've notice that it's worn off as evident by the motor mouth and the emergence of impulse control issues.

Anyway, it appears that the Strattera is helping him to slow down during the day giving him the opportunity to think things through first before he reacts.  His sleeping is not an issue now though it was prior when he was taking Concerta.

We have had our 10 year old son on  Straterra and up untill recently, have administered the dose at dinnertime. We recently started giving it to him at breakfast and have noticed major differences, some positive, some negative. Does anyone have experience with this situation as we feel that maybe his 40mg daily dose might be too much as we've never tried any less dose in the mornings.

I have never heard of anyone giving meds at dinner time - that confuses me a little .

But I had issues with over medicating my son and my Pediatrician suggested halving it and I find he is getting through his school work - and I find I can just deal with the behaviour when he gets home,  if I know he is being good at school

NJRobert, what are the differences you are having?

NJRobert,  We had been giving my son 40 mg of Strattera at bedtime.  The doctor upped the dose to 60 mg and then my son started having sleeping difficulties.  We switched him back to the 40 mg but the sleeping problems persisted.  We then switched to giving him the Strattera in the morning 1/2 hour before he has to get up along with his Adderall XR 10 mg.  The slepping issues subsided and there was an added benefit that the rebound effect from the Adderall XR was greatly diminished.

Strattera is one of those medications that can cause either sleepiness or sleeplessness depending on the individuals chemistry.  Some other people notice their children becoming more emotional.  This has not been the case with us.  -Gettingagrip-

My son (115 lbs) is on 80 mg strattera in the morning.  We can definitley tell if he has forgotten to take his meds first thing in the AM!  we havent ever tried giving him part or all in the evenings... honestly he has no side effects from the meds at all
