I agree with Ribbon, after doing a lot of research on different ADD medications it seems that Effexor does work for a minority of people to offset ADD symptoms but is better utilized in combination with a stimulant to treat ADD mixed with anxiety.
In my case it is ADD and social anxiety. I asked about taking both but the specialist wanted to see how Adderall would do on its own first since I wouldn't be subjected to the side effects of an anti-depressant. So far the jury is still out.
hockeygoalie2938909.2140046296I've been on Effexor for a couple of years. Mostly for depression but anxiety as well. I'm taking 225mg daily. It definitely helps with those problems. It doesn't do much for my ADD. I have recently started Adderall for that, and it has helped me so much.I have heard good and bad about the use of Effexor. I started on this medication about two years for anxiety. My reg Doc prescribed it for me. At first, it seemed to really help but then it seemed as if I didn't notice any benefits.
Just recently, I went to a psych to get evaluated for ADD. After, a couple of appts, she determined that I was very likely ADD. But since she felt as if my ADD was mostly anxiety driven that I should stay on Effexor but that she would UP the prescription.
I just wanted to get some feedback on this from others.
I know that we all react differently to medications. But I am wondering if I should seek a prescription that is related more to ADD rather than just anxiety or both?
I don't necessarily want to jump on the medication band wagon, but I want to explore my options.
I have a focus problem and sometimes it interferes with my work and other projects. I would like to be able to focus more on my writing but I have this inner reluctance and resistance to HAVING to focus on writing. Or on anything that requires you to REALLY focus. I always thought I was just a lazy writer.
Would other medication help me focus when I really NEED to focus?
effexor has mdma in it... they use mdma to make extacy.. maybe thats why effexor is better then other anti depressant medications... satisfaction38909.3755787037Thanks for the information. I will talk to my psych about this. I was just upped to 150 mg of Effexor from 75.
I might consider taking some stimulant to help with the focusing issue. Generally, I am not too bad if I am not anxious or stressed. (which isn't often) I appreciate all of your input.
Busterangel, I started with 75mg Effexor and now am up to 225mg. Only at the higher dosage did it become fully effective... My doctor said the higher dosage targets a second receptor.
