Dear georgoiu4:
Congratulations!! Whatever you try, even if it does not work, give you " merit" just for trying. I wish you luck. If it works, please, come back to the forum and share the good news with us. You might try to check also: If there is any neurotransmitter in short supply? (neurologist can send this test) and if the Thyroids glands are working properly? (a blood test in pediatric office) Good luck!!

I have a child diagnosed with ADHD, his taking Ritalin and he is in ESE (Exceptional Student education). His mayor problem is reading & comprehension. He has improved, but he is not in the level where he is supposed to be for his age & grade. I'm worry that this situation can lower (even more) his self-esteem, for not been able to get the same achievements as other. This is frustating for students, for parents & even for teachers. Parents are blamed, Children are blamed or labeled. Schools are blamed. This is a neurobiological problem. This is nobody's fault. But, we all can do something, let put preasure in our political leaders so these kids can get more help. I think by preparing an special program/classes for this kind of disability, an having this kids in it, full time in schools with a fully trained personal in this matter & where they don't see themselves as "stupids" because the rest are doing great and they are getting D's or F's will help so much!!! If the government has money for special schools & programs for "gifted" students, why not to invest in others that are in a "bigger" academic need.
Dear madreader:
I don't know what you consider "not done all you could for your child to assist him with his schooling" I make sure he does not miss school, he gets there on time every single day, I buy all the supplies needed for school, I speak with his teacher more than 3 times a week, I spend between 10-20 hours a week helping him with his homework, I only buy him educational toys and books, I take him to tutoring, I limit his TV time to a minimum, I spend quality time with my kids, I take them out, we go on vacation, we have family gathering, they play with friends and neighbors, I help him with projects, I go to all his school meetings.
Can you please be more specific, and tell me: What else can I do to help my son?
By the way, you should read some of my other messages in this board, where I'm trying to find an alternative to medications. Thank you anyways for your comment.
Dear Madreader
You know I have enough problems dealing with my insecurities about the way I feel like a failure because I am a single parent with an ADHD child and then for you to say "not done all you could for child to assist him with his schooling". Ouch! As for the drugs...........I too am looking for an alternative and for the past month my son has not been on any drugs because I chose to take him off Strattera and now he is so out of control that daycare, school, myself and anyone around him doesn't know what to do for him because he is literally climbling the walls and crawling out of his skin! My son needs help and by taking him off drugs I have made the problem worse and for your information it took me 2 years to even put him on drugs because I was so against it! So maybe the next time you comment you should maybe watch your words because I'm sure you have offended several others besides me!
