Thank you greatly for your response.
Those of you who have emailed me directly, I will respond to you that way. I'm a very private person but I wanted to talk with other parents who have tried medication and I wanted to know what your thoughts were on that and if your child is benefiting.
Thank you kindly for your time!
my son takes Adderall which is not the same medication but I believe it is in the same family of meds as Dexedrine ( Adderall is a mixture of four different amphethamine salts). As for the Adderall this is the best medication my son has taken, he can focus and completes all of his work at school. He sleeps at night and his eating is pretty good ( we push lots of high calorie foods). Adderall seems to be an all or nothing type med...some kids cannot tolerate it and others do extremely well.
Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Hi Candie and welcome. You state your child has possible Adhd. If you havent had your child formerly diagnosed by a clinciain trained in the field of diagnosing and treating childhood disorders, I suggest you do so. ADHD medication is safe and very effectively manages the symptoms when given to a child dignosed with ADHD provided it givens under the supervision of a doctor who confirms the diagnosis. Medication should never be tried to make a diagnosis, especially at such a young age.. The problem needs to be identified first and then a treatment plan is recommended. The response to medication is different for every child as some children have more than ADHD going on or the child could be misdiagosed . There are many variables and there is no one right answer. Besides your child having short attention span which is common under the age of 5, are there any other behaviors he exhibits that give you such cause for concern?. If you care to share, more information would be helpful
I agree he needs to be formally diagnosed and medication needs to be monitored. We go monthly for medication follow-up. I don't mind those visits as I know this is the well being of my child.
I have a 4 1/2 year old on folcalin xr. He is doing awesome in his everyday behaviors including focus and actions. My parents who were hesitant in the beginning are constantly saying to me that they are seeing what a positive difference it has made with my son. We are just so happy for him that now he will have a chance in school and everyday situations. He has even commented to me on his own that he feels like a good boy now. He loves school! :-)
Hope this helps in some way.
Hi Everyone,
My child will be starting on Dextroamphetamine for possible ADHD starting tomorrow. Does anyone out there have a child under the age of 5 on this medication? If so - have you noticed a difference in your child's attention span? Does it help your child deal with everyday situations better?
I thank you for your help.
