soilingsomewhare i (think i) have read that thare is a link between AD(H)D and soiling. sins i have had (and sometimes stil have) some problems with soiling i would like to know what others have experianced? I don't have this issue, but I typed it into the search engine and got a load of hits. I suggest going to www.ask.com and typing ADHD and soiling. I saw a bunch of articles. I think it actually is linked to the medications being taken, not ADHD itself. My son soil's, he can use the toilet for a wee, but rather uses he pants otherwise, im not sure if thats his adhd side or his autistic side though??????As he has asbergers also.First off how old are you and day or night soiling? And do you mean like #1, #2 or both? Feel free to PM me. I know a little about this because i wet the bed until i was 8. http://www.aboutencopresis.com/
look at this link, it may help thoes who have children that are soiling.....
mainemissy28 I've always had a small bit of that problem myself
It's like you know you gotta go, but you ignore it, then it gets stronger, and then you get to the point you GOTTA GO and if you don't hurry and get to the toilet, then your screwed! It's better of course now that I'm older, and always like clean underpants, but every once in a while I find myself having to change them. oops!
I'm sure it has to be an ADHD thing. I've known I had to go before and got distracted by a video game, then I went 3 hours later!I do the same thing. i just put it off and like you said if you dont get too
the toilet soon then you're skrewed! To any families of ADHD children: Our son was started on Ritalin at age 6, then changed to Cylert, then to Adderall. He wet the bed till he was put on Nortriptyline and he immediately stopped. But now....he is 18, addicted to marijuana, meth and has to constatnly have that "stimulant feeling" because of the years on these meds. Statistics show these kids are more prone to abuse drugs when they get older and for my son it happened. If I would of known the heartache this causes, I would of let him be the hyper kid he was and pass school with c's and d's and maybe he would not be going to jail tomorrow for a year. DJI stopped now but until i wa 7 id do it everyday! Sometimes id be too laz to get up and sometimes id just not notice. da*n! I still have accident boh #1 and #2 durring the day and at night. Hi there, My 8 year old son has problems with soiling his pants. Has had it for awhile. His pediatrician told me that it was one of the effects of ADHD. She also told me that the medication and a strict routine should help the problem. I am also looking for any input and ideas regarding this issue. Tracy Very interesting thread. I had not heard this, but thinking to the people I know whose children have had a problem with soiling long after being "trained" (like school age) it seems like several of them were later diagnosed with ADHD. I don't know about #2, but could accidents with #1 be related to medication? Especially stimulants? I don't have ADHD, but stimulants like pop will sometimes have the effect on me that I don't always QUITE make it to the bathroom before it's like my bladder contracts all on it's own - just about 30 seconds before it was supposed to! Once when we were on a trip, driving through the night, I was taking No-Doze to stay awake. When you drive, you don't always get to stop right away when you have to, so by the time we found a rest area, I REALLY had to go. I was barely in the stall when WHOOOSH - oops. Kind of embarassing to explain to my husband that HE had to change the baby's diaper. I had to go change myself!
[QUOTE=mikmum]My son soil's, he can use the toilet for a wee, but rather uses he pants otherwise, im not sure if thats his adhd side or his autistic side though?????? I know it's pretty hard to train, especially #2, when a child has autism/aspergers. I did a search recently for work on autism and potty training. There are a couple informative sites that gave some good advise on the topic. I actually appreciate the bravery you guys have shown in posting about this. I have a six year old with this issue. He will be starting school next year and I was wondering if anyone has any tips about how to deal with this in a school environment (he is going to a remedial school as he has other problems, so I'm hoping the school will be supportive regarding this. His creche hasn't been supportive at all.Well, I would expect in a remedial school they have seen this before, and would work with you on it, especially if he has a diagnosis that is related to problems like this. The school where I work has a little 5 year old with Autism that is not potty trained. He has an aide for academic reasons, and when it's bathroom time, he goes in a different bathroom with the aide. She helps him "try", or changes him if he needs it. At school, we've done a velcro chart with him breaking down the steps (pants down, underwear down, check underpants, stand in front of toilet, underpants up, pants up). After each step, he gets to move the velcro picture (actually a line drawing) to a train track, until the whole train is put together. The caboose has a happy face to let him know he should be happy when he uses the potty. Then they put it back so it's ready for the next time. They haven't gotten close to trying the potty for bowel movements yet. Is your creche over there like a preschool or daycare over here? That's too bad that they aren't supportive. If he's spending a lot of time there, it seems like it's something that they need to work WITH you on - not something you can just do at home. Wish my son was at your school!! Yeah, creche is preschool. This one goes from babycare to Reception year, which is like the year before first grade. And it's the whole day, so I'm very peeved they haven't tried to help me, even though I've asked them to often. I saw Daddy Daycare with Eddie Murphy, it's pretty much the same as that. Except in that they do actually potty train the kid ... anyway. I like the velcro picture idea. And I do think the remedial school is going to be a much better choice for him and will be suportive on this. Hopefully we will make some progress before he gets there though, he's going only in Jan. Thanks for your help!My daughter has been diagnosed with adhd for about 5 years(now 10). We just now started her on meds. She has always had a problem. We have taken her and got about every test there was from the urologist. The end result was that she must be chronically constipated. She doesn't have accidents during the day anymore unless caught laughing like crazy. She does wet every night. It wasn't until I started her on the meds. that I recently saw a connection between adhd and wetting. But I don't think it has anything to do with meds.My son is nearly ten and up until the last eight months he soiled not only during the night but day as well. When he was two and a half he would make himself sick rather then eat as he realised if he ate he would have to go for a motion and when he went for a motion he would be sick. I was told children with ADHD do have can have this problem. Thankfully he is now totally dry. With him it was more a psychological proplem than physical. |
