Adderall question | ADHD Information

Keep a log of how you feel throughout the day and see your doctor each month.  It may take a while for you and your doctor to find the right dose.  Aderrall XR works better with some people.  Taking too much adderall could cause insomnia and of course, yu want to avoid lack of sleep. It is always best to start with the lowest dosages of meds and then titrate upward until you are stable with the right dose for you.  Good luck!I've only started Adderall a couple of weeks ago, so we're still figuring out the right dosage for me... But I'm only taking it once a day, in the morning (25mg). It helps a lot for as long as it lasts. But it is disconcerting to slip back into the brain fog in the evening, after feeling good and thinking clearly all day.

I am wondering if most people take it more than once a day? Do you take a smaller dosage in the evening? (And what is a normal dosage for Adderall... my doctor said he was starting me on a low dosage, and he gave me 20mg... most people seem to have started at 10mg.)

Are you taking extended release (XR) or regular (IR)?  I take 30 MG of Adderall extended release in the morning, and 15 MG of regular IR in the afternoon so that I can finish my work day.  But I metabolize it really fast. 

I am not yet close to the max recommended dosage I don't think.  Some people here take twice what I do, if I am not mistaken.  You should have Adderall coverage for all of your activities, but there is no getting around "the return of chaos" every evening when it wears off. 

You do get used to it though.  For the first month or so, I could literally feel my mental gears start slipping as the Adderall left my system.  I try to plan quiet, non-demanding activities for my evenings these days.

I am taking the "regular", not XR. I take it about 7am because it takes about 30 minutes to take effect. Then it wears off by 4 or 5pm. So it is completely worn off by the time I get home from work at 5. I wouldn't mind being without it in the late evening, but I need to do things at home as well as at work! I have an appointment with my doctor in a few weeks, and will definitely talk to him about this.

Wow, having the immediate release Adderall last from 7:30 in the morning until 4 or 5 in the evening is amazing! That's about 9 hours! I'm lucky if my XR lasts 8 hours from the time I take it and that only includes 6 hours of coverage since each "dose" in the XR takes an hour to "rev up" and only lasts 3 total hours.

Ask about taking XR. If the the immediate release lasts you that long, an XR should last you all day if you take it in the morning. Since the second "dose" of the XR gets released 4 hours after you take it, that should cover you unitl around 9pm or so if it performs as well as the IR for you...
