Medications for Impulsiveness | ADHD Information

My son is 9 years old and struggles mainly with concentration and impulsiveness.  We have tried several meds and they seem to help concentration but not the impulsiveness.  All most every medication we have tried makes him more  irritable than he already is.  Has anyone found meds that help with impulsiveness and don't make your child irritable and angry.  Thanks Rosebud

we use  a very small dose of focalin xr with our son, however, we also work with a nutritionist too

One of the things our doctor had elected to have us do was test our son with a 6 hour glucose test.  We discovered that he had reactive hypoglycemia.  My understanding is that his sugar levels drop drastically after certain intakes of foods. We have changed some of the ways we feed our son.  If we give him strawberries he often will get a protein along with it.  We are careful with the carb intake as well (low carb high protein focus).  Our doctor shared that reactive hypoglycemia can contribute to some of the impulsiveness that our son was encountering.

We've seen a great change in our son.  He is a much happier child and has less impulsive reactions if any at all.

Ask your son's dr about Clondine.  It works wonders for impulsiveness!  and the dosage is very small.  Omegas didn't do much for our son, but they do work for others.  try that first, if it doesn't work, ask the dr about it.No meds., but something else may help.  Omega-3 is what we used with our son (he is 9) He has taken Omega 3 for almost a year and the impulsiveness is almost completely gone.  Could be maturity also but we really think the Omega 3 is what has done it.  His concentration is awesome now and he did MUCH better the last 1/2 of the school year.  We buy it at the health food store (brand--Nordic Naturals in Lemon)  Meds. were HORRIBLE for my son.  He had all the side effects and he became very moody.  This is so much better!
