I'd certainly try the "med holidays" as that can reduce the amount needed by a large amount. I've been at 20mg over a year now and as long as every 2 months I force myself to take one week off I don't see a reduction in effectiveness.
It takes planning and self-determination but believe me it's better than upping the dose and then eventually failing to get any help.
i'm on 40 a day after starting with 10 in january, but for some reason my psych. doesn't want me to take any days off. i always thought it was normal for doctors to recommend takng holidays from meds. is this doctor wrong for not recommending days off or is this common with other people on this site?
i also asked my doctor what he thinks about dexedrine and he doesn't think it would help anymore than adderall, since i feel it has improved my hyperactivitiy my impulsive behavior somewhat, and my attention very little.
jerbear38915.7479398148It's recommended by the manufacturer (right on the Rx for me here in Canada) to take a med holiday from time to time as it is a good way to get a before and after picture. When you wean off the meds it not only gives your body a chance to recharge on its' own - it also can prove if the meds are working as you should eventually revert back to ADHD self if the meds were actually controlling it.
Some docs here on the site I'm told don't like to as they like the consistency of not being up and down with meds. Personally I can't keep my dosage if I stay on them so for me anyway it's best. But there are many ways to do it.
Dexedrine is in Adderall but in a much smaller dosage. Trying dexedrine may help - I'm surprised the psych you have won't even allow himself to think that it may be something in the future to try. Maybe he's very good or very stubborn I don't know.
