he's severe adhd, but no one knows unless i tell them. his meds and diet have it totally under control and he is very well disciplined. But, that's just me. I wouldn't suggest it, though. ADHD children do have a harder time getting the social skills developed and it takes them longer. You might want to as your son's dr about it first. I hope this helps. But, if you do decided to home school, please keep me informed on how it goes, this would be interesting.
Does anyone home school their child with ADHD? Our son is 9 and we are considering home schooling this up coming year and are looking for curriculum advice. Any help would be great!

Thank you for the curriculum advice. Because my son has ADHD he is taught one on one all day with a teachers aid which makes him feel like an outcast. I think I can do as well of a job if not better than a teachers aid when it comes to my childs education. I also agree with you on the social aspect. My son will get plenty of social interaction at our church and other activities we have him in. The social interaction he is getting from the kids at school I could do without anyway. My son has been in Independent study since the end of 6th grade. It is the best of both worlds for us. He can do all of his work at home, but the school provides all the curriculum. He sees a teacher was a week, and can go to school to take tests or get help from tutors as often as needed. It is all provided by the local school district's educational option center, so it doesn't cost us a thing, except for the time it takes if he needs help from us, or to take him to school. It has been well worth the time and effort, and he enjoys it.
if you are worried about getting social interaction, there are tons of Home School groups that get together, or you can put him in an outside activity like karate, swimming, YMCA, scouts, etc. It is doable, and so worth it.
Hi there. I've homeschooled my sons for the last three years and will continue as long as I can. My eldest son of 10 is autistic as well as ADHD and can make me wacky if I find myself getting wound up and I have to remind myself to take a time out when I find my brain is exhausted. I had him in public school for two years but it was a true disaster. My youngest son isn't a special needs child but he does enjoy homeschooling. I have them signed up in a private school who takes care of all of the legal paperwork but we have the choice to choose our own curriculum. I'd suggest you look up http://homeschooling.gomilpitas.com/ that will provide tons of info regarding homeschooling. For the math and reading subjects, I've had my sons enrolled in the Kumon program for the last few years, which has helped relieve a lot of the stress on me and my husband in having to teach the fundamentals of reading and math. Their website is www.kumon.com. I also have the boys signed up in cooking classes. They do a lot of gardening, reading, and as far as the social interaction is concerned, a subject that is always brought up when I mention that my sons are homeschooled, I honestly don't miss what would happen to my kids when they were in school, getting bullied, getting verbally or physically beat up in school. I honestly don't feel comfortable listening to a lot of kids at the park or in a school yard talk to each other. Yesterday at the park, my eldest son was threatened by a five year old whom he confronted for pushing my 7 year old's head into the metal edge of a slide. My 10 year old asked this 5 year old not to push his brother and the 5 year old responds by stating, "I'd like to kick you in the stomach, punch your face, and slice your THROAT open!" His mother witnessed what was said but said and did nothing. My husband and other parents who overhead the conversation were in shock as we heard this child continue to speak his vile words of hate. My boys decided to simply walk away. I didn't judge this little guy but felt a lot of sadness for his mom and for him. I know how difficult it is to have a difficult child. I can only hope the best for them and I'm thankful that my 10 year old autistic boy didn't engage. Anyway, getting back to homeschooling, it's not easy, and it doesn't work for everybody, but so far for us, it's what works and good luck to you in whatever you decide to do.
Hi.. I have been a step gannie to a 7 and 11 yr ole ADHD for 7 months now.. HELP!!!!! We are raising the kids because of unfit parents GRRRRRRRRRR.... but never the less I want what is best for these 2 kids n they have never been givein a chance in life.. at home or at school... when the kids moved in with me I found out that both kids could not read or write or do math... (1st n 5th grade) I took the kids out of school and homeschool them... The 11 yr old girl does not have a learning problem at all.. she just never had a chance in life... I started her all the way back in 2nd grade going thru a home school that I used with my own daughters... I started my 7 yr old son back at starting of 1st grade... it was not easy by no means. but I want these kids to have a chance in life. they both can read n write n both loves math... my 7 yr old son ( I call these kids my son n daughter becuase that is how I am raising them as my own) I have only had them for 7 months.... but any ways they now can read.. write. do school.. my son does have a learnin disability.. he is a full blown ADHD...so I understand his learning ability n I have found ways to teach him so he can learn... this is a little advice to you that is thinking of home schooling.. if your child has a problem learnin words.. n if he has ADHD he most likely will have a hard time remembering two and three letter words.. there is no way to make him remember them..and also there will be times he can't even remember a word to read.. so I will read him the story and then he will be able to read the questions himself and asnwer them on his own. He has skipped over half of his math books.. I will offer him the test n if he makes 100 on his math test he skips the book but if he misses just one problem he has to do the book.. you have to have lots of patiences with homeschooling no matter if your child is ADHD or not... I am 50 yrs old n I know why the Lord lets us have our kids when we are young! The kids grand father is having me put the kids back in school now since they can read etc because he sees how old I have gotten being with them 24 hours aday..(its hardf to get baby sitters for our kids .. I wouldnt want to keep kids that acts as theys do and thats sad!... But I am going to school and I am going to go thru who ever it takes to get my kids thier edecation! We have a law now in Al. that no kids be left behind.. well I am gona make sure that law effects my kids.. I don't want my kids PLACED I want my kids taught! good luck with all our kids...countylain38917.3381944444I thought about it, especially when he was going through a hard time, but im with ogram, i need my space to re-charge, im finding it hard to do that at the moment & he is still at school!!!!Try finding stuff made easy Daniel can do these on his own. It's all about test scores these days and not the daily/hw. There daily/hw scores acount for only 40% here until 5th grade then it is 50% tests 50% daily/hw. A se kid doesn't even have to pass anything like a regular kid does to move up each year either. That really helps in the wrong long. Bull! This is why we have a problem with how education is set up altogether. They all need to get we all need to be taught in ways that work for us as a individual. Hi! I homeschool my son and he loves it. He has been with me for 3rd grade and then for 5th (he went to public school for 4th--but that was a stressful time for both of us). As far as curriculm goes I kind of wing it. I get spelling test from the internet, I get books at the library, I buy workbooks from an Educational store, and for 5th grade I got a book at the Library called "Everything Your 5th Grader Needs To Know"--which helped alot. There are pros and cons to both homeschooling and public school, but only you truly know your son and what will benefit him the most. I have a younger daughter that goes to public school and I would never (well never say never) homeschool her because she has a very active social life at school and does well in that environment. Good luck with whatever you decide to do. I hear switched on school house is great for adhd/add kids. It all done useing computer software. I ignore peoples comments on the social things you can get this is in any program with kids.
Good Morning!
I homeschool my child through our public school system. The way it works is your child is registered through the school system (so they get credit for going to school) and utilizes the computer/printer they loan you to access classroom material on the internet. If you child loves working on the computer, they will love taking classes online. Our current "in school" requirement is 6 hours a day, which does not necessarily mean being logged on for that long. When it is time for your child to take any standardized tests, you will take your child to a special location designated for the test(s).
Some places online where you can get curriculum are:
