reducing meds | ADHD Information

My 14 y/o son was diagnosed with ADHD in Sept 2005 (he has the impulsivity component to a greater degree) and has been taking 54 mg Concerta in the morning and 5 mg short-acting Rilatin in the afternoon....all seemed to be fine for awhile but then it seemed he needed something "more"....his psychiatrist added 10 mg Ritalin to his AM and PM doses....shortly thereafter, my son's fear of bugs seemed to have grown almost to a phobic level...discussed it with the doc...he felt confident my son has OCD (which often accompanies ADHD) and prescribed Risperdal.  It just seemed odd that the bug phobia developed so soon after the meds increase and we've been wondering which came first...the chicken or the egg.   In addition, my son seems to have lost some of his "spirit" since the meds change and the Risperdal doesn't seem to have had any effect on the bug phobia.   His father and I are seriously considering asking the doc to eliminate the Risperdal and go back to the first meds level to see what happens.

Has anyone had a similar situation?  What have you done?

Thanks to all who post!
Well, I'm no Dr. and I wouldn't want to give medical advice, but let me just say this:  as the parents, it is your right to give the meds you are comfortable with.  If your doc doesn't agree, find a new one, certainly one who would work with you and listen to your observations about your son.
