Sorry you're having sleep problems, but they're common with kids on Ritalin. This topic has been discussed many times before here, you may want to do a search on it. Anyway, assuming they are waking up in the morning at a reasonable time, and assuming you have a bedtime routine, and assuming you have let them get they're energy out during the day (not sitting watching tube all day), then what can you do? Some parents here have prescriptions to help they're kids get to sleep. Some other parents use Benadryl. What I personally do is use melatonin, which is a sleep hormone naturally produced by the body. You can get it anywhere they sell vitamins, such as grocery stores, drug stores, Target, Walmart, etc. I even use it myself sometimes if I wake up at night and can't get back to sleep. Good Luck!
I have to change up periodically. Melatonin is the supplement of choice. He has to have on his TV. I have tried to cut it out, but no go. We have tried just the radio. Does not work. So he has a light and a TV. I am not happy about it, but if he does not have that routine, he will be up until 4 am. We use Benadryl when the Melatonin needs a break. When all fails, then I just don't sleep.
i have the same problem with my son he is on ritalin also what time is you childs last dose? maybe its not wearing off soon enough, my doc said that its meant to wear off before they have tea so they can fall asleep easily
my son is also on melatonin and it worked great for 5 months now we have problems again but it could be because of the heat and light.we also give him passiflora and we have a homeopathic oil(lavender).
still he fell asleep at 8.30 last night and got up at 6.30 this morning, got up once in the night.a lot better.
no tv,no computer before bedtime also helped us as it was stimulating him and of course a consistant routine.
