New Life | ADHD Information
I don't think you should adjust your dosage amounts just yet. You've
only been on it for a few days. Give it a couple of weeks at least, so
you can get used to feeling and thinking this way. I've been on
Adderall for 5 weeks and I am getting the same kind of effect you
describe. Everything is suddenly so much easier!!
You know when you are sick with something, and you are nauseous for a
long time, and then when it goes away, you're like, "I never realised
how good it feels just to not be sick!!" Or if you have a toothache and
you put something on it to numb it... just the absence of the pain
feels fantastic. That's how I feel now, just being "normal" feels great!
I've spent a long while browsing the boards and reading about side effects and such of adderall. I just began taking it on Monday. I take 20 mg AM 10 mg (3 PMish). It makes me see the world in a completly different way. I'm just a bit thrown off, does it take a bit for a lifestyle to match the new feelings that medicine helps create? I mean before I felt like I was moving at 1,000 MPH and got nothing done. Now, I feel as if everything is 10 MPH yet I accomplish things. I'm just wondering about dosage and things, perhaps I should cut back a bit, or is this the way non-ADHD people feel. I'm just kind of really feeling a bit not like myself pre-medication and am concerned. Thank you all for your responses.
As maxdad said a therapist helps SO much - especially when you are starting. You'll feel very startled by the differences in your life now from then. It's all good though - slowing down thoughts is one of the benefits for us not against us!
Once you become used to it it's so nice that when everything seems to come at you it now seems almost as if you are in that movie "the matrix". It all slows down so you can see the parts of what stresses you and deal with it one at a time. Who can't use that?!?
Don't worry. You aren't crazy and certainly NOT alone! We all got a shock to see how the other half lives. I personally enjoy being one of the slow masses LOL! I wouldn't trade it now for anything.
It sounds like to me that you are receiving a very good benefit from Adderall. Your dose amounts are not that high.
I think you're experiencing what I have also experienced. I found that as my mental fog lifted and I began to see the world around me more clearly, I could finally make better decisions and understand the impact of my actions. And as a related effect, I have gone through a tremendous amount of self-evaluation and coping issues. After decades of personal failures, failed relationships and never achieving what I wanted, it was tough to clearly "feel" all of that in a short amount of time.
Understand that better attention and awareness come with a whole host of potential coping issues. If you do think this is an issue, or may be, find a therapist experienced with ADD who can coach you through your new-found awareness.
Best wishes!
