initial adderall effects? | ADHD Information

I had similar reactions when first starting Adderall XR.  They gradually started tapering off after about 3-4 days.It usually takes 2-3 weeks for your system to adjust to a dose. My pulse and BP increased when I started, however, they only stayed "up" while on a dose.

After a few weeks they dropped to normal. It's been 8 months and my BP is actually lower now than when I started.

Also, it could be that Adderall is not the right med for you. I initially started on Ritalin and reactions such as yours.

Best of luck to you.

I just started taking adderall, in fact this is my first day.  I am racing, i am sweating a little and i'm just sitting here, and it seems very intense.  Only 10mg.  However I have gotten so much work done and I am not distracted that I am loving it.  But I don't want to be sweaty and on edge all the time...

Anyone with experience, will these effects go away after I get used to the drug?

fiveryanfrenzy38919.3967013889Wow, I'm glad you posted this.  I'm experiencing similiar things (minues the racing and sweating).  I feel so tired and slow that it's insane.  Productivity wise though, it's mind blowing.  Here's to hope that Adderall will regulate and give us both the desirable effects without crazy consequences.  I did take my pulse yesterday and it was within normal range.  Hope things are going well.maybe i should check my pulse too

I am moving out of my folks house so lots of packing had to be done

It had been going slow and I had been a sluggard about it before, and the place was trashed.

after taking my first dose this morning, not only did i finish packing, i cleared out my room, cleaned both kitchens, finished the laundry and all within record time.  amazing.

hopefully i will adjust

Why on earth would you want to?

The side effects of Adderall typically level off after the first couple of weeks.  Unless you are feeling that your health is in danger (read the serious side effects in the insert with your meds or ask the pharmacist to print it for you) just wait and it should go away.  Tell your MD if something is troubling.

It's natural for your body to seem in overdrive when starting.  The adderall affects the brain's norepinephrine (read adrenaline) and it's not selective enough to just affect the ADHD.  Your body will react as if you need the juice to fight or flight for a while .  It passes.

When I started dexedrine (one of the ingredients in adderall) I felt very electrified.  My heart rate increased slightly as did my breathing.  When I studied my breathing at first it was to me almost panting.  It went away fast.

What you should be left with after the initial getting used to it is the focus and ability to say no to urges we normally get.  That's worth it for sure!

Do stay close to your doctor.
