I hope she feels better ASAP.
Just have to say Im SO happy that our son has been receiving special ed along with speech therapy and OT for 2 years without a diagnosis. Hes now 5.5 yrs old and we just got the diagnosis but all the help hes received has been for adhd issues. :)Isn't it almost a relief to know that she is JUST SICK? Sometimes my son gets like that too, for days, but not sick enough to know if he's ill or "something's bothering him." It's always good to know when they get over whatever was going around. I understand your feelings! I hope she's feeling better real soon. Jill, hope she's on the mend soon. I'm glad you were able to figure out what was going on.
My son did the same thing it was for about a week nothing was wrong with him. he wasn't sick or anything its more of attention getter.
My daughter went through a period of that and her tonsils are always inflamed and she also suffers from anxiety like her MOM (me!) but one week in particular she was running for the sink constantly and turned out she had coxsacki (sp?) virus in her mouth and throat which is common during the summer. We put her through a battery of testing for the stomach problems with no dx everything was fine .. and the feeling is not coming from her stomach but her throat waters up and it feels gaggy .. I suffered from that ALOT too from anxiety as an adolescent .. especially in public places!!
I hope your little girl is feeling better soon!
That's it then. It hurts to chew food when you have an ear infection.
You do get sick to your stomach and throw up when you have an ear infection.
When you are sick or something bothers you, you don't feel like eating.
The little sweetheart. I hope she feels better soon.
I'm glad its something that can be easily cured. Thanks everyone and she woke up this morning with Pink Eye nad a bad cold to add to the ailments. I had to take her to grandmas while I work until eye drops kick in. Jillette38923.4757523148Jill, my gut tells me this is an illness, not anxiety. I'm glad she's being checked out by the ped. Make sure he/she looks into strep -- it can present this way. Good luck.
To her credit she had a low grade fever last night. Actually she now is running a 100 temp again so this is real. The feeling sick around dinner time however is not resolved. Maybe it is my cooking ? She has a doctors visit on monday to be physically checked out. She is not on any meds this summer except allergy and she goes to summer camp all day. She appears to love summer camp they are awsome with her and getting things out of her is rough. She also sees the psychologist on thursday, I will keep you posted.
This must be very difficult for you. My son who is 11 was on a medication for his ADHD. Everyday the school nurse would call he has a headache, he feels sick to his stomack. He then developed panic attacks and he would sometimes have up to 2-3 per day. He was even afraid to go to school for fear of having a panic attack. One day I got so fed up I took him to a health food store and told him the doctor had recommended some pills that were called "Panic Away". I did not let him see the bottle. They were in reality childrens Vitamins. He did not know that and the panic attacks went away in a matter of 3 days. This occurred four months ago. I finally took him off the meds to ADHD and am trying other treatments. Another idea is my nephew at the age of 8 was diagnosed with a bacteria that causes ulcers. It is diagnoses with a simple blood test. H-Pyloric. That bacteria will cause stomack upset and nausea. Hope you get help. The past week my girl has been complaining of being sick stating she feels like she is going throw up and does not and it occurs around the dinner hour I have noticed. She will run for the bathroom and lean over the seat and not look good and nothing happens and it goes within the half hour. This is occuring daily and I do not know if it is behavior or illness. She is currently next week going to be screened by her psychologist for Anxiety and OCD, could this be Anxiety? I keep asking her if something is bothering her and she says nothing. I am planning to call her pediatrition tommorow morning and hope the psychologist sent him the report from my last visit about the upcoming screening. I think I am going to ask for a physical examination maybe even bloodwork whatever to rule out physical illness. In my heart I feel it may be psychological and it scares me. Any other ideas? Jillette38919.6501851852You may want to take her to see a Gastro man. I don't know if it's anxiety or not, and I doubt anyone does yet. I had EXTREME anxiety as a child, and fear of vomiting was a passing phobia I had. I always thought I was going to throw up for about a year until my phobia switched to something else. But always check out a medical problem first. This wouldn't have anything to do with OCD. It's either anxiety or maybe a nervous stomach.I agree cause some of the meds will cause sickness. It made our son sick at his stomach no matter what we did. It could also be allergies - I spent years and years with all sorts of stomach problems until I discovered I was allergic to beef and most animal proteins except fish and lamb. (I can eat chicken and buffalo now, and milk and eggs in limited quantities)I agree with smallmom, rule out physical causes first, then consider psychological. I hope you find some answers soon.Jill, it could very well be anxiety, and your daughter may be too young to tell you what is causing the anxiety. HOWEVER, it is my firm belief that all medical causes need to be ruled out before emotional causes are considered. My 8-year-old daughter, for example, has anxiety, but felt nauseated all spring and even fought me about going to school. Because her symptoms continued for many months, the ped GI doc finally did an endoscopy on her and discovered that her esophagus was very red and irritated due to esophageal reflux. So the cause of her nausea was medical. It is very good that you are having your daughter checked out by the ped. BTW, strep throat can cause nausea so she should be checked for that as well.Is there anything that is happening just before she gets sick that could be triggering it? Some of my suggestions of what to look for aren't fun to think about but they are what comes to mind as to what a child might be upset over. Don't take them personally, please. I know you are a great, loving mom.
Is she in day care and maybe you haven't been home long when it occurs? Something could be upsetting her there and she comes home and thinks about it and gets sick. Does she go somewhere or do something like homework after dinner that she may be dreading?
Is she on any medication? It could be when it is either getting into her system or out of her system and that is causing nausea.
Is dinner a pleasant experience or could she not be looking forward to that?
If you can't find anything that could be a trigger, then the psych is the best bet to pin it down.
