ADHD and shoes?Trying to order chaos when on meds is one side effect. Our meds affect the impulse control area of the brain that is involved also with the obsessive compulsive disorder. I found that once on dexedrine I cannot stand disorder in my work area and find myself fixated on detail and cleanliness. I've heard many with ADHD both kids and adults either have complete chaos in detail or in some areas are nearly OCD. It would only be a concern I think if she shows signs of compulsion where he's not only absorbed in the order and style but cannot leave the details alone even when prompted to. If you do see signs of it becoming a compulsion get him assistance soon as OCD can be very dehibilitating. But it's probably as has been said a childhood attachment to cool shoes. Glen, I think you touched on somethin I had put in the back of my mind. My son is not on meds. We do have OCD very strong in my family, and I have it too. He used to, when he put his crayons away, line them all up, took 1/2 hour! MOst kids just threw 'em in the bucket without another thought. When he got new stuff, he'd play with it, then wrap it all back up in the package looking as good as new from the store. When he packs for camp, his suitcase looks like a Haney's department store shelf in there! t's like that with his shoes at times. He really likes to clean them, likes them to look brand new, and will spend a lot of time alone with his shoes and a little brush. Gosh, he was overjoyed when we ended up with a shoe-care kit as a giveaway! I brought it up because it does seem a bit odd, but I'm ok with it. I could be worse things! But new shoes, boy, that's just like him being on the meds again! like you said, his own way of having order and control in his life. I'm just like that too. When things are a bit out of control for me, besides tornado dreams, my house gets REAL clean and tidy! The apple does not fall far........ Thanks for all the interesting and funny shoe stories! I have enjoyed them. On the other hand, when she has a pair thats REALLY comfy, she'll wear that pair & no others until she grows out of them. And she has a high instep so its often hard to find a pair she likes that fit her right. I love summer when she can run around barefoot for the most part. My daughter likes shoes, and all clothes for that matter. She has numerous pairs of shoes around the house, but thank heavens, she gets around to wearing all of them. Each time there is a special event for school, she asks for a new pair of shoes! When I saw this topic, I thought it would be about the horrors of having to find missing shoes. Sorry my boys don't react that way to shoes. We go to the store and they try them on, walk around, LOVE them, these are the ones........but I know that I will have a hard time getting them to wear them once we get home. Sometimes I get them to wear them long enough to break them in and other shoes never get woren. They become very attached to their woren in comfy shoes even if they're literally falling apart. I threw away a pair of shoes with the soles falling off, holes in the sides only to see them back on my sons feet two days later. Does anyone's children get fixated and obsessed with shoes? We don't have to get kiddo shoes too often, but when he does, it's got to be skateboard shoes from the catologue, and it's like when he was on Adderall, for like a WEEK! **Beautiful** The anticipation of getting the order in and, and then lacing them all up just so, and wearing them all proud. All goes well during that time frame, EVERYTHING, even schoolwork and homework is perfect! I was talking with an ADHD friend of mine who said he's the exact same way, as is his ADHD stepson. We were wondering if there were "others." Ahhhh, if they could only bottle up a daily dose of new shoes we'd be really good. |
