SENSE OF DIRECTION! | ADHD Information
Just wondering if getting lost all the time was a problem for all of ya.
No, quite the opposite
l love exploring, love maps (now incorporated into part my business), and usually have a pretty good idea where I am. I'm sometimes surprised in the London Underground tunnels which way the trains come from, and occasionally have to think about left and right, but generally geography has always been an area of great interest.
Nope, never lost. I love maps, globes, compasses. I read mapbooks for entertainment and have maps all over my walls.
I don't know whether to laugh or to cry... I get lost often!!! LOL I mean just like taking a slight detour can land me off in Timbuktu. If I come out of one of the rooms for example in a doctor's office 9 times out of ten I will go the wrong way and end up in the lab area....
If I make an effort to pay attention, because I remember that I need to in a given situation, I can do just fine. As well as, if not better than the next person. But if I allow myself to not be paying attention, I will lose my car in the parking lot too!!!
Well, as far as knowing my right from my left, I do the pen in the hand thing too. That is terrible for me, and I also give wrong directions using those! Also the north, south stuff, arggh, doesn't work for me. Amazingly, I can read a map really well though, and can usually find my way without one. I wandered in Europe in many places without a map and found my way usually without help. When I did need help though, a nice lady who I swear was sent by God, helped me. But my sense of direction is usually right on, thank the Lord. Except for when I forget where I left my car. Wandering up and down Walmart aisles for 20 minutes is not fun.
Left & right? HELL! Tonight someone asked me where they serve the best drinks on the beach. I said " that way" to your left. I was pointing right
They went right! Me and Tequila(my 22 yr. old amazon Parrot) have to work there tomorrow night. I hope they don't come back b/c they got the WORST drinks anywhere, and who could forget the lady with the parrot who gave them the "bum steer"
.
If y'all haven't all guesed, I'm Dyslexic!
I'm great with a map have an internal compass but can't remember which is left and which is right. If I'm driving with someone and they say go left. I ask turn which way left is hwat drivers side or your side. If I have to give direction I have to play the what hand do I write with game. You know the pretend to have a pen in your hand. When I figure out which is my pen hand I know that is right. Amazing how after all these years I still do this.Laurala,
funny you mention sense of direction! i seem to be blessed with an
internal radar and so far it has only let me down once in all the years
of travel. In Amsterdam, Holland!
It is one of the easiest cities to navigate for most but not me. I
remember it because when i got confused i decided to ask someone for
directions, Mistake,. guess where they sent me? Yes! you guessed right,
the RLD of the city.
some people say travel broadens the mind and my reaction to that one is! A map prevents unexpected mishaps.
Basilica,
Thanks for the info on getting about in amsterdam. will be watching out for them on next visit. glad you enjoyyyy It so much.
I always get lost, sometimes i dont even know how i got to the street i am on... and let em tell you if i dont write down where i left my car it takes me hours to find it...last christmas i sat out side the makk on my cellphone crying to my poor husband that car had been stolen I had a bunch of gifts in my arms and sobbing sitting on the ground. My husband packed the kids up and drove around the mall to find my car on the other side of the mall.... I had parked near JCPennys and exited out of Sears.

ryan1950,
aaah, but getting lost in amsterdam is sooo much fun! that's why i go!
Hehehe!
AND, next time you go, you may notice that there are map boards located
in many, many places on the sidewalks of the main streets. phew! huh?!
I have a problem with N.S.E.W., so I can't give very good directions and feel like a total dummy if someone askes " do I go north or south?" However in my own area, I've learned to use landmarks, but I still occaisionally get lost!
When parking my car, I always use a store for a landmark. Wal-mart is easy, but in malls, I have to remember the store, and once inside what dept. When it works, it works like a charm, but when it dosn't, just call me "The Wonderer"
Huh - what - where am I ??????
Just wondering if getting lost all the time was a problem for all of ya.
If I don't take notice of where I park the car when going to the mall, I'll spend hours looking for it,

so I take care to really look for floor signs and stuff that i.d. where it is and not rush away as much as I used to."Mall Dementia"
I get lost in the Mall and a lot of times you'll find me wandering around
the parking lot trying to locate my automobile.
i love maps and discovering new places, everything still not covored by my sight tends to be very attractive.
I never lost myself when i'm outside (especially on lsd) but i can be searching for my friends when in a house...
They call me P-Chan. P-chan is a guy from the manga Ranma (a japanese comic book) who, for example, walks to the store down the street and ends up in China. Everywhere he goes he gets lost.
So my Japanese friends call me P-Chan. It's really a horrible problem for me.
(chan is a Japanese term like San: Matsumoto san. But chan is used for little girls and cute animals (haha)
I am great with compass directions and always have a sense of direction. I have a very hard time with right and and left.
