Adderall dosage question | ADHD Information

Adler's book "Scattered Minds" indicates a "typical daily dose" of Adderall (XR or IR) at 10 to 70 mg.  So I guess your 50 is on the high end but not out of the ball park.

I've just started medication for ADD and am also on Adderall... still adjusting the dose.  I'm curious what "too much" feels like in terms of mental performance, and haven't gotten any indication from my doctor on this.  I suspect that this figuring out the proper dosage is a balancing act between mental enhancement and physical side effects.   Curious what others have experienced and learned from working with their doctor...

Right now I am taking 25mg of Adderall XR in the morning. We are still adjusting the dosage; I've only been on it for 6 weeks now.

Yesterday morning, I accidentally took two doses. Well, yesterday was extremely hectic at work, and I found I was responding calmly, without getting stressed about all that was going on. The extra dose didn't make me jittery, or "hyper-focused", or anything like that.

I thought I was doing well on 25mg, but yesterday was much better. I was more awake than usual, more alert, and definitely more calm. I also had plenty of energy for the whole day. (That's one thing I love about Adderall... I have energy available when I need it, but I don't feel compelled to use that energy in fidgeting, talking, or "busy-ness".)

Is 50mg a pretty high dose? Or is it in the normal range of what's prescribed? (I don't get a lot of info from my doctor... I need to find a new doc soon, I think.)

I agree with John, 50mg of XR is not out of the ballpark.  I've been taking a much higher dose of Adderall for about eight months now and it's made a life-changing turnaround for me

My doctor and therapist had me take incremental dose increases every few days so that we could understand at what does I received a benefit, but then also at what dose I received a level of benefit I really need. We even went a bit higher to understand and validate that the assumed optimal dose for me was correct.

As I moved into higher doses I had a similar reaction as did you. I did not have more energy but I was definitely more calm and found that I could think much better. It's almost as if the speed of my thinking decreased which allowed me to better consider what I was saying or doing.
