Kristina is going in for this intellegence/achievement testing tomorrow morning. I've been struggling with it all week but I am taking her in. What the results will show won't matter right now because if the psychologist says she is ADHD I won't do anything about it as far as medication goes. I've decided that I have to allow her thyroid to get to a normal level before I do anything. I am going to continue her therapy every 2 weeks - I think that is helping alot, esepcially with school coming up in September. A whole new year of solitude, teasing and tears. Maybe this year will be better if we can continue to build her self esteem and she continues to learn through therapy how to handle emotions and situations.
I will, however, agree to antidepressants for her dysthymia (depression). She needs some kind of boost.
I sure hope I'm making the right decision!
If there is a thyroid problem it will be a while to get the right medacine/dosage also. This inbalance could be the problem. It sounds like a plan to me one thing at a time. I Hope it turns out it was her thyroid and once it gets straightened out she will be fine.I think you are doing the right thing. I think she will feel better once her thyroid is working properly with the help of the proper med dosage.
I like your plan, but beware that there is a warning on antidepressants for kids under 18--can make them suicidal. I'd personally prefer a mood stabilizer. Dysrhymia (spelled wrong) is a mild form of bipolar, I believe. If she does take an antidepressant watch her carefully for aggression issues that may start up to two months after she starts taking it because it takes six weeks to get to a higher level. Straterra is also an antidepressant and can the same effects as any antidepressant. Good luck.
