Hi, Sue.... you can also check with your state to see if you have any community mental health centers in your area. Fees are determined on a sliding scale based on personal income and medical expenses. In publicly funded mental health centers, such as those run by State, city or county governments, the cost of many services is calculated according to what you can afford to pay.
Get the school to pay the np bill we are. My ins. didn't even know what a np is. Most Np's don't take ins. The se is waiting to talk with the referring psychologist who sent us to the NP. Our insurance paid for the neuropsych eval--00. AetnaWe have Connecticarew and they do cover them if it is medically necessary. What is wrong with these insurance companies. I have tried for 2 yrs to get to the bottom of the behavior. I guess I will wait for school! We have been looking since Daniel was 4months. His past dr. was the greatest help moved away. Same with the latest Dr. also.Sue, can you get your ped to write a letter to the insurance company saying why the testing is medically necessary? Sure sounds as if it is given that all the meds are causing a medical problem (tics). You do need to know exactly what you're dealing with.
How bad are the tics? There are meds to control the tics, most notably Clonidine and Risperdal.
Good luck.
Any advice on why my son would get denied for a neuropsychological test? He got approved for the initial test then denied for the 5 hour test. They said something like he had to have a medical condition. I'll explain quickly that he has been to a child psychologist and at age 4 diagnosed with adhd combined type. His pediatrician and psychologist have tried 5 different meds all stimulant but he develops severe tics on them. Focalin worked like magic though. Our latest was Strattera and that made him very irritable and tired. Also tried natural and had him fully allergy tested, and that is fine. My main concern is that he is starting 1st grade and I think it's going to be a nightmare. He has very tough behavior and focusing issues. Should I wait and see what the school does? Should I fight the insurance? Thanks, I'm kind of at a standstill now. Any advice? Thanks:)
