What happens when she takes Strattera?

DD AGE 8 IS ADD SHE CANT TAKE STIMS THEY GIVVE HER FACIAL TICS STRATTERA WAS THE LAST HOPE FOR US HAS ANYONE ELSE FOUND ANYTHING NEW? THAT ISNT A STIM OR DOESNT CAUSE FACIAL TICS

Stimulants made me anxious, but  combination of Wellbutrin XL, Strattera, and Buspirone is working very well for me. I finally interviewed well and got a good job in the field I trained for.

Three days ago I ran out of Strattera, though, and the difference is marked. I am already unable to hold back the stream of talk. I am really worried because my new job starts soon, and I am getting forgetful already. But until insurance kicks in after a month or six weeks, I can't afford to buy any more Strattera.

Different meds work for different people. Don't give up. OFTEN it's a combo that is effective. For example, adderal was awful for me, because I had underlying anxiety that was stimulated by it. It made me far more scatterbrained instead of helping!

So for me, Strattera doesn't suck, it's a lifesaver. Being OUT of strattera sucks! I wish I had some right now, it makes me able to function in the workplace.
Check with your doc.  Some types of antidepressants and blood pressure meds can be used.   Strattera combined with Ritalin works really well for me. and like hyperbrain
said when i run out of meds i'm in trouble. You just need to take time to find
the right combo and dosage.I couldnt tolerate Straterra either, it made me extremely sleepy in the afternoon. Like almost to to the point of falling asleep while driving. You may ask about Tenex, that is used some for ADHD I hear.  I have also heard that some people that didnt respond to stimulants are doing better with the new patch that is out, but not sure about tics.  Good Luck, but I do agree about Straterra,  Sure did NOTHING for me besides almost put me in a ditch.

I also can't live without my strattera.  My strattera wasn't clearing the brain fog while I was sick and it was horrible.  Trying to keep 8 different tasks straight in my head without strattera does not work!

What exact meds have been tried?

Stimulants can worsen tics - though not in everyone.
Strattera, is a first line treatment for ADHD which doesn't interfere with tics. If it works, then your daughter is away to the races.
If it doesn't work, then you are into the second/third line choices.
Things like:
clonidine, guanfacine, Wellbutrin, maybe even imipramine (though often not used in kids).
The other option is to take the stimulant for the adhd, and then add an 'anti tic' medicine - for example risperidone.
I hope this helps.
Alot of people begin Strattera for themselves or their child and expect "instant" results. this is not the case, it takes 4-6 weeks after the proper ramp period to begin working. Once target dose is reached, the results are usually good. I agree that this med stinks. My son has been taking it for 3 weeks now and he is stopping it as of today.  He has anxiety issues already but the strattera has made the anxiety worse.  Since taking this med my son has started to urinate in his bed every night.  It has also caused my son to eat 24/7 nonstop eating.  We have an emergency appt tomorrow to try to switch his meds again.
