adderall xr-mood change new dosage | ADHD Information
Well every child is different and responds to medication different but I have two children ages 8 and 5 and both of them have been on adderall xr before and I have seen nothing but negative results. They had real bad temper tantrums and became more aggresive and mean on it. Like I said though every child is different I have heard some parents say its been great for them. My daughter is 14 years old and was diagnosed with ADD in the beginning of the summer. She was put on Adderall xr 10 mg. to start and there was a huge difference in her mood swings and temperment. The psychiatrist decided to up her medication to 20 mg. because the 10 mg was not lasting a full day. I just gave her the new dosage today and she is in a terrible mood, argumentative, irritated, mean, etc. Is this normal when you change dosage? I almost feel like going back to the 10 mg. What should we do? Is this normal? ThanksOne possibility might be to switch to two doses... my 5 year old takes 15
mg of Adderall XR at 6:30 am, and another 10 mg of XR at 12:30.
Otherwise the morning dose would wear off about 2:00. He goes to bed
at 8:00 with few problems, in fact he has a harder time sleeping when the
school forgets his mid-day dose. Then he can't settle down for bed.
It doesn't sound quite right to raise the dose to make it last longer... it
seems to me like there is a "right amount" for each child, and it sounds
like you found it when you saw the big improvement.
