Hi Everyone,

I have a question. I was wondering if some kids are born with ADHD and grow up with it. Are their Kids mostly likely to have ADHD? I would get like to know. I have ADHD, and I'm looking to have at least one kid when the time comes. Will my kid have ADHD as well? Thankies to anyone who can answer this.

Am I sure about the heredity?  They are not sure about anything about ADHD, however it does tend to run in families, yes.  You can "google" the words "heredity and adhd" and many articles will pull up.  When you go through a diagnosis process as either a child or an adult there is a strong emphasis on family history.  In our particular situation, my husband is ADHD, my Mother in Law is ADHD, my mother is ADD, 2 of my husband's brothers are ADHD, and out of 10 grandchildren on my husband's side 4 of them have it.

I can understand your hesitation -- I can tell you it can be difficult from a parents perspective as well.  However, there are some good sides to ADD/ADHD and it certainly is not the worst thing that your child can have to struggle with!  It's not fatal and, in this day and age, can certainly be helped in a myriad of ways.  It has not stopped us from having children at all.

Sk8er, there is this box of chocolates that we must pull from before we come down to earth and are born.  Every human has struggles because of the way they are made, and we are all made differently from others.  This is your pickens, if you decide to have children, they may pull the same selection out of the box, or a different one than you.  All depends on what they pick out of the box.

My 11 year old son has ADHD. I don't have it but his father does. So it can be inherited.

Are you still about that??? i've been through alot alot of problems and trouble because of my ADHD. I dont want to to happen to my kid too. Trust me ... Nobody understands what happens inside my head because if my ADHD.

i have ADD  and i have one child with and one child without.

there is no evidence whatsoever the MMR jab causes ADHD,here in britain there was a big hooha about the combined jab causing autism but in france they have the separate jabs and they still have autism and ADHD.

YES, what scotmama is saying is true, there is NO medical evidance this is true, but in my case this is what i belive, there was a docamentry on the tv here a few months ago & i know of other families here that this has happened to, so there is NO medical evidance as of yet, but it is happening.I once read that most adults don't ever realize that they have had ADHD until their child/children are diagnosed. I believe that this can be harmful to the children because it often puts parents in the mind set that "there's nothing wrong with me, so there is nothing wrong with my child."  Yet, I don't know of any scientific facts to support that statement. I wish you the best of luck!~
