Newbie here | ADHD Information
Hi everyone I'm new here and I'm glad that i found this board.
My son who is 10 was diagnosed with ADHD in Feb. of this year. So far he has been on 3 different meds. The first one was Strattera i forgot how many millagrams but that med soon wasn't working like it was suppose to. The next one we tried was Adderall i think 30 mg he was doing good until he starting getting really angry, yelling at his 2 yr old sister and almost to the point of wanting to hit her, then when the Adderall would ware off he would get really deppressed. So now we are on Ritalin 20 mg. and I'm not seeing a difference. I want to take a more natural way to help with his ADHD, we have changed his diet but i'm not sure that we have changed it enough. Is anyone using more natural ways to help there kids with ADHD? I really don't want to have my son on meds anymore as the more i read about them the more that i don't want him on them. I want what is best for him and I want to help him with this.
Thank you so much in advance :)
Try the natural or alternatives board. Lots of people do this. My son has been on Strattera (did nothing) and Adderall (angry and tearful) It is a difficult journey, sometimes I wonder if it will ever end.

Ok thanks (((((HUGS))))) for you and your son it is a very hard journey
(((Hugs))) Yes it is a hard journey. The alternatives board has lots of info. A lot of folks give their kids fish oil supplements and report an improvement after a few months. We all take it also. I don't know that I've seen improvements since dd is also on ritalin, but I've read from different sources that fish oil is good for the brain. Good Luck
Make sure what you are reading about meds is "real" information. There is so much garbage on the internet about medication that is not accurate, not backed up by any scientific evidence, and is put out there as a scare tactic from some of the organizations that don't believe in ADHD at all, let alone using medication.
Stimulants are the most researched medication out there, that includes prescription and over the counter medication. There are side effects, just like there are with any medication, or herbal medication, so you do have to weigh the side effects vs. the risk of not medicating.
If you go with non prescription treatment, just be sure to research it well, and it's still a good idea to use all medications under a doctors care. Herbal/Natural does not automatically equal safe, so be sure that any supplements you use, you research them just as well.
I hope you find the right answers for your son :)
