My 9 year old daughter just started ritalin la 10 mg. It doesn't seem to be phasing her. Could she possible need more? She was on 10 mg of Adderal XR before but we had to take her off due to mood swings. I know that they are two different types of drugs. Could this be the reason this dosage is not working?
Thanks
We have also just begun a Focalin LA trial. Our psych told us that it may work better or it may not work at all. We're just going to try to get through the four weeks and see, unless of course we notice strong adverse affects, then we'll discontinue. My son was on 20mg of ritalinSR when he was 7. This is the Canadian version of LA. So yes it is possible that your daughter needs more then 10mg of ritalin. I would advise you to ask your doctor.I think there is a difference between Ritalin and Focalin. My son had mood swings on adderall, some on Focalin but not as bad.It is very possible that your daughter needs more ritalin to reach her optimal dose. Although adderall and ritalin are two different drugs, as a general rule of thumb, adderall is stronger (about 2x stronger) than ritalin, so perhaps upping the dose will help.
Good luck!
