HI, my son was on Concerta and was loosing weight and not sleeping well. The Doc wanted him to try a shorter acting stim. The wash out period from the concerta was horrible he was so off the wall hyper and unfocused. We tried the Medate CD (suppose to try for 2 weeks and then Ritilan LA for 2 weeeks) well his appetite improved and he slept a little better but he was so hyper and developed numerous tics.
We ended up going back to Concerta and adding Tenex for the tics. He has tried adderal too. So far the Concerta works the best. Everybody is different just trial and error
good luck!
Hi! Has anyone had any experiences (good or bad) with metadate cd? My son, who is 7, was just diagnosed today by a pediatric neurologist as having ADHD anad ODD. He is being prescribed metadate cd ,10mg, once a day. I will have to mix with applesauce since he is not yet able to swallow pills(we're working on that, not with much successn yet).my son has been on metadate cd for about 6 wks now and every morning is awful trying to get him to take it. He won't swallow a pill and as such, we've tried sprinkling it onl ice cream, whip cream, chocolate sause and he still fights it everyday. Would anyone know or has their child stated that it tastes bad even mixed with the above things????
Hi jagmom! My son is finally taking his mixed with Hershey's chocolate syrup and he swishes with a small glass of water afterwards. He still complains a little that he tastes it but now he is hooked on earning his weekly reard for taking it so that seems to over ride this complaint.we will be trying a new approach tomorrow. On a previous message, someone mentioned a candy treat following taking the med in the morning. I'm going to get a bag of snack size candies and try that tommorrw. I just can't take the stress every morning trying to get him to take the metadate. I'm frustrated and wonder if I'll have to go back to the ritalin tabs if this continues.
My son is very inconsistent so it is hard to tell if he seems moodier or crankier at times while on the metadate cd. I will say that I see less of a rebound effect with this than I did with the fast acting ritalin tabs but, he can still get a little irritable & sensitive in the afternoon but, it's not everyday. I like the metadate because it has eliminated a noon time dose and it can last up to 7 hrs or so.
Thanks for your response and I hope the reward system will work!
My son has been on medate cd 20 milligrams now for about a year. He is 8. It is wondeful. He does not have any side effects assept loss of appetite for lunch but eats a good breakfast and dinner. He also is able to fall asleep at night. We actually just had a quarterly check up with the doctor and he told the doctor that he likes taking the medatate because it helps him focus and read better. He can keep his head in the book the entire time. I was glad to hear that. Good experience for us. good luck and hope it works for you.I am starting him this morning so I will cross my fingers that it helps. Thanks! Good luck mom. Let us know how it goes. Remember that if this does not seem to do the trick there are lots of other stimulants to try. We tried several and then got good results with adderall.
