My son was on Focalin XR (20mg in the morn and 10mg mid day. He did pretty good with it. Complained of a tummy ache sometimes, but it did not last long. We are now trying the Daytrana patch. Not that we was unhappy with the Focalin XR, it just was not lasting long enough in the day to make it through school, so we had to start doing a pick up dose at around 2pm. How old is your child?
The patch is doing wonderful for us, and last until I take it off in the evening. Good luck. You will find what is right for your child, it just take patiences.
Do not give it at night. i have also heard that citrus juices can affect it. I give it to my son with food, if I don't he gets an upset stomach. It has been the best stim for my son. My 7 yr old started on Focalin 5mg in mid January. It did a 180 degree turn in regard to his behavior. His ped said she was suprised it had any effect on him because it was such a low dose. He started seeing a psychiatrist who upped his dose to 10mg and the sh__ hit the fan. He beccame worse so after 2 months she upped him to 20 mg. I in all reality want to take him off. There is some difference i noticed on days he didnt get it, he was wild as hell with out it Im not getting the effect i would like. Hes now taking zoloft and clonidine and now not only isd he superemotional but he has fits of rage too. DOnt know exactly where its coming from since hes taking 3 meds.My daughter is 12 and was on Focalin XR for 8 months. We noticed it working within the first few days, she started with 10mg. We upped it to 20mg after 5 months. She lost 1/3 of her hair. It was coming out in clumps. She was off all meds for 6 weeks and just started Straterra. This will be her 4th week, we started with 25mg and now she is on 40mg. I have not noticed her being able to pay attention better yet as school just started and it is still taking her a long time for her to finish her homework. I have a friend that said it would take a few weeks to kick in. Thankfully, her hair has not been effected. Her hair is really thin and she is in 7th gr. I pray it does not happen again, that would be real tragic at this point in her life. Does anyone have any hair loss problems?? or know if Straterra is good?even for a 4 y.o. , I don't think 5mg is enough to make any kind of a differenceIt got upped to 10mg already.oh well maybe.
