Daytrana Patch...LOVING IT! | ADHD Information

We just started 2 weeks ago, the Daytrana patch.  It works great!  The side-affects were pretty intense for the first week, but are getting better.  WE are loving this med and so is my son.  My son's thinking is so much clearer on this.

I think it can be a struggle finding the right medication for your child.

My son has been on Metadate CD for 3 years.  It works great, but such a daily battle with him to take.  We had to do it in applesauce.  We tried Adderall XR last year for about 4 months and that was horrible.  It made my son depressed and he pulled his eyelashes out, a lot of anxiety with that med.

Give each med a chance, but don't hesitate to go back to your doctor and to say a med isn't working.  There's one out there for your child!

That is great!  We are also trying the patch...  So far so good.  His teachers at school have told me he is doing wonderful and it is lasting long enough to make it through the whole day without a 2nd dosage (like I had to do when he was on Focalin XRWe got the free trial card from our doctor.  It really was easy to get once we got it.I usually post on the Parents of board, there's a thread about Daytrana over there, too.  I just found our my insurance will cover it ().  Pdoc is researching and going to write a scrip.  How do I get the card for a free 40-day supply?

My doctor is prescribing Daytrana for my 13 year old son?  He will be the first patient at that office to try it.  Makes me very nervous.  I saw that you speak of intense side effects for the first week - can you tell me what kind?  Are you having any sleep issues?  What dosage are you on?  Just looking for information.  I hate changing meds but Focalin XR is only lasting about 3 hours.

The first week was very interesting.  My son was on Metadate CD 30 mg before.  It worked good, but not as good as Daytrana.  We saw side effects of appetite (although we had this before), excessive talking, dry mouth, and a tic in his mouth (this went away after 2 days).  We've always had appetite issues while on his meds.  The excessive talking hasn't really gone away.  The biggest thing I can explain is that his thinking is much clearer.  He's been thinking back to things he has done in the past and telling me how he is sorry for some of the things he has done.  The dry mouth is pretty bad, we just have him carry a water bottle around with him to rinse his mouth etc.  The tic he had was he would move his mouth around, but like I said, this went away after 2 days.  We did have one day of paranoya.  We were camping and he was freaking out about spiders.  That went away too.  This is just working so well, we don't want to see anything else.  My son is 9 and on 30 mg of daytrana.Woah woah woah

they have patches now? Thanks for your help.  When I called the doctor we have decided to stick with Focalin but go back to Focalin regular.  It seems to work better than the XR for some reason.  We will see - I'm still not so sure Daytrana isn't the answer.  But she said we can try this first.
