Both of my kids take adderall xr, and I do not see any more whining or tantrums than normal. It works good for us, but every child is different, keep a good record and talk to you doc about it.
It depends on your insurance if you can get an rx for 3 mth. It saves a lot if money for us, I'm diabetic and also add. For my meds, including the straterra I'm taking, I get a 3 mth supply with 3 refills, so I need only one rx a year. For the kids adderall I need a rx every 3 mth, and I have to mark it on my calender to do that, or I would forget.

we do the mail in too. i'm also diabetic. kind of off topic, i have to ask you if you have pancreatitis or have you ever had an acute attack of pancreatitis? I have been chronic for 4 years now. I was reading that Dr's can inject the pancreas with stem cells and they will create new pancreatic cells and can and DO cure diabetes!!! It's still being tested but they can do it! there is hope for diabetics. I hope they can do this to cure my pancreatitis, but that is not going to happen in my life time (i don't have a lot of time left and the studies are just for diabetes right now
)

No, I have never even heard of pancreatitis. What is it? Do you have to inject insulin?
The adderall is xr-I wonder why the mood swings happen so consistently apart? Something to ask...I'm glad you mentioned the fruit juices-no the dr. did not specify. He just talked w/ us for a while, played a game w/ son & wrote the rx. He was interested in if son had had an iq done-that was the only "out of ordinary" question he asked. I'm not sure if mail order woud work-I've been told I need an rx written every month. Do the procedures vary from state to state, I wonder? Thanks for all the input. My son was on adderall xr and after about 3 months he would need an increase and he would get way out of control mad throwing tempers etc. So they would raise his dose it would wotk again but like always when he came down from it he hit hard temper tantrums etc I mean it was bad so bad if it happened we keep himout of school for the day . Anyway that was my experience with adderall xr. hope that helps youOhh and your Dr. probably told you, but fruit juices decrease the absorption of adderall too. (Especially orange juice I was told)

According to my understanding you do have to revisit the Dr. on a monthly basis to get the rx prescribed/refilled. My nephew is on the xr which is supposed to be a slow release, but according to the pharmacist some insurances will cover the cost of the reg. vs the xr so it may effect your co-pay if you have one. Doesn't hurt to ask :)
THanks- We have a drs appt. in 2 weeks to check on how he is doing-and for new prescription. Does having the meds mean we have to go every mo?
Adderall was a nightmare for my son too. Lots of crying for no reason, yelling, angry, meltdowns. He was on it for only a month. We switched to ritilin, (which worked great, but didn't last long enough), then to Concerta, which he has been on for 2 years. We have had no mood swings like we seen with the Adderall. It was really scary for him and for us to watch. I'm glad you are talking with your doctor soon. [QUOTE=stopwhining]

on has been taking Adderrall for 2.5 weeks. He started on 5mg first week, now up to 10mg. I have noticed he gets very angry (over the littlest thing) about 4 hrs after he takes it. THen he gets very whinny and cries (again, over the littlest thing) about 4 hours later. How long is the "adjustment period" or is this just a bad choice of meds for him? My nephew had similar effects from the adderall for the first few weeks, as well. The "boohooies" were extreme. I would see how he adjusts after a month. Then discuss the pros and cons you feel about the adderall with the peditrician. Good luck~
