Alwilda - does he has supervision around bed time?  Or is he on his ownHow about "white noise".  If my son has a fan on in his room, that usually works for him.  We had tried music, but he listened to it instead of relaxing to it.

My 10yr.son has been on Concerta for only 4wk. He can not fall asleep. He goes to bed at 8pm on school nights. I work at night, and when I come home at around 12 he will still be awake. I know that if I tell his doc. that they can give him some med. to help him sleep but I dont want to drug him up like that. What I want is an childrens alternative sleep aid. I have looked on line for health food stores but cant come up with anything for kids. Please give me your advice on what to use and where to get it. Thanks.

I would take the TV away & replace it with something like this:

I can't take the T.V. away, it would not be fair for my other child whom does not ADHD. Our home is only 2 bed rooms so I cant put him in a diffrent room. I would do so if I could. He has to shair his room with his brother. He has a TV in the room that is kept on very low. The thing about him staying up all night is that he is quiet. He lays in the bed, doesn't talk (if he talked he couldnt here the TV) doesn't play around- he just lays there.

I would limit the TV time, if you can not take it out of the room, I would turn it off at bedtime (maybe even 30 minutes before bed) have htem read a book instead that will help him relax more. you can also by cd's that have white noise that helps my son sleep straight through the night.

Cartoons go off at my house at 7:30 and then it is quite time they can do anything in the livingroom that requires no noise and both my boys 1 has ADHD the other does not seem to go to sleep better because they have relax time prior to sleep.
