Concerta side affects | ADHD Information

When I first started taking concerta I also had that problem.  One of the side effects which I had in the begining was a dry mouth.  So naturally I was drinking a ton of water, and "peeing like a race horse".    My dry mouth eventually went away in a couple of weeks.

This could be your son's problem, though 5/6 times an hour is quite a bit.  Make sure he drinks something like Gatorade or pedialite to keep him from getting dehydrated.  If it doesn't go away I would definately call your Dr. just to make sure there isn't a more serious cause.

Hi, My 7 year old son just began 18 mg of Concerta daily.  Since begining this treatment he has been peeing like a race horse.  He urinates 5/6 times an hour.  Has anyone else experienced similar side effects?  If so, How long did it take to disipate?  thank you soooo much for your helpNovel - how is things going with your son - has he been tested for possible diabetes.

Thank you all for your advice and concern.  Louis tested negative for anything we might have to be worry about.  It appears he is not drinking enough, causing his urine to to concentrate with particals.  This creates a feeling of frequent urgency.  Answer is simple drink more,  It seems two negatives do make a positive.

thanks again

Marlene

I'm glad to hear you figured things out...I have found that I need to consume a lot more liquids on medication than I do when off.....which often leads to frequent urination. The dry-mouth and frequent urination were heaviest when I first started meds, however, I still experience them lightly (after a couple of years.) I just make sure I carry liquids with me everywhere, which seems to help.....Also, if you make sure you're getting sodium in your diet, you won't urinate quite so much...just be careful not to have your sodium intake too high.
