Antidepressants & Weight Gain | ADHD Information

My only weight problems with meds is losing weight.I am presently on Adderall XR, with a low dose of Wellbutrin.  I have lost about 25 lbs since starting the Adderall, and so far, the Wellbutrin has not caused me to gain.  In the past, before I was diagnosed with ADD, I tried Prozac, Celexa, and Effexor.  They made me tired, and I gained weight on all of them.

Hello All,

I've been on Adderall for years and it has worked wonders for me...however, it has increased my anxiety..My doc has suggested adding on an antidepressant (SSRI or SNRI) but I'm afraid of the weight gain that supposedly comes with those types of drugs. Has anyone experienced weight gain with these?

Thanks a ton!

That tiny pill is that heavy?I'm on Effexor and it has no effect on my weight. However it does help alot with the rebound affect that all amphetamines inevitably cause to a person at some point.

Rebound effect is when the medication starts to wear off and the brain has an abrupt and sudden stop of chemicals flowing and starting to slow down. This creates a feeling of anxiety, agrivation, irritation, or anger.

Rebound effects don't always happen though. Sometimes it happens and passes without a person even noticing that they are pissed off.

I hardly ever experience it with my effexor, since it counteracts the effect with its seratonin effects.

But most likely you won't experience any type of weight gain even if the anti depressant does cause that sort of thing for whatever reason because the Adderall is still in you system making you not hungry.my granddaughter was on zyprexa,,,,never take that,,,,omg she gain 50 lbs in for month,,,poor child,,,,soon as we took her off,,,she lost the weight,,,don't try it

Anybody use them and have success?

and not experience weight gain?
