Son off medication | ADHD Information

Poor kid.
He must feel miserable.
Amphetamine inevitably creates a need (dependency) to have it to feel normal after prolonged usage such as that. I went through withdrawls like a crystal meth addict but I gave up and just went back to taking it.

My son was taking adderall for 5 years off and on.  We have have tried many others. I've had it.  We took him off in April. Started him on Natural herbs.  Its working very well. Now he is eating (gaining weight), sleeping, and interacts with kids better.  How long does adderall stay in your system.  He fell asleep yesterday, during the principals speech.  I called the school and talked with them about his sleeping problem.  Plus about his focusing problem.

Does anyone have an ideal how long it stays in system.  And if anyone else is having this problem with there children.

OUR SON HAS NEVER HAD THE SAME LONGEVITY OTHER KIDS HAVE. HE HAS TO SPEEDS GO OR STOP. WHEN HE WAS YOUNGER HE MOVED UNTIL A SLEEP. That is precisely what I'm afraid of.

adderall cause my son to get angry all the time!

He did good on Wellbutrin( But it can cause seizures.) he never had them.

Every child is differnt! all meds have some type of side effects and doesn't always show up!

What herbs is he taking?  Is it possible that any of those could have the sleepy side effect?  i think my psych is on adderall, he seems like he has adhd he  can't sit still, he keeps sticking out his tongue really quick like a snake, and he seems distracted when i talk to him, he doesn't make eye contact very often, and he asks questions that if he were paying attention, he wouldn't have to ask.Hahahaha, well if he was on Adderall, he wouldn't be doing these things I don't think.

Perhaps ask him if he has adhd and if he's ever been tested or evaluated for that sort of thing. Ask him as if your just curious and was just wondering. You don't want to offend him lol.My psych closes his eyes for like ten seconds at a time when he talks to me & for someone who absolutely REQUIRES direct eye contact (me--I swear I can't hear w/out it/imagine other incorrect yet rhyming & entertaining things are being said) it drives me bonkers--it's why I can't do phone conversations--no eye contact--I get bored/distracted in a heartbeat.  You're losin' me--you're losin me! & I'm gone! terrie38950.7501736111
there is always some physical dependency with stimulants of all kinds, caffeine, nicotine, cocaine and so on. as a user of all three one time or another in my life, i know. the fact that they say "must be taken as prescribed" means if you stop cold turkey, you'll feel like sh*t!!! weaning off slowly would make the best sense if terrie wants to ease some withdrawl symptoms.

Pretty sure I can't go off any more slowly than a quarter of a 5mg Adderall SR--I'm like an infant--w/the attention-span to go with it!

hahaha are you sure your not just nervous?i don't make alot of eye contact when i speak to people, i tend to think "what the hell is that person thinking about right now!"and i get distracted. i have a hard enough time thinking about what i have to say much less inadvertently thinking about whats on someone else's mind. why do i do that???I'm much more comfortable w/you now . . .  I think I'm missing the nervous gene--I'm certain (see that?) in my overConfidence! And I also think everything written pertains to moi!  Ahhh, sweet narcissism . . . narcissism? Oprah? is that you?!?!?Good one!  Very good--I have to jam--chat at you boys mananathat's "tomorrow" to all the boys and girls out there!!I wax nostalgic for the days of Pee-Wee's Playhouse when Tito the Lifeguard would give translations en Espanol...I actually used a clip of that particular show for an oral report I gave during my undergraduate on why 911 Operators should be bi-lingual.  Did you ween him off? (slowly decrease the dosage?)lol maxdad. Are you sure aout that? Euphoria knows his stuff! Especially
about stimulants.
And Adderall usually stays in the system for about half a day.
Are you sure aout that? Euphoria knows his stuff! Especially

LOL. He actually makes my point about, "if not taken as they are supposed to or if abused."
And Adderall usually stays in the system for about half a day.
Correct. That's why I wrote "Adderall stays in someone's system for anywhere from 11 to 14 hours after a dose wears off."

Adderall stays in someone's system for anywhere from 11 to 14 hours after a dose wears off. There's no buildup in someone and no long-term "stay."

Herbal supplements can be helpful as nutritional support, which can have the effect of helping some symptoms. However, there's no research by a credible source showing that herbal remedies are effective for the treatment of ADD. I would imagine that his focusing problems are back since his treatment has changed.

You could try discussing Strattera with your doctor. Strattera has lower success rates than does Adderall, however, it doesn't have the problem with sleep and weight loss.

Actually there's no evidence to back that up. In fact, studies clearly show that if taken as prescribed, ADD meds are not addictive nor do they cause physical dependancy. However, they can if not taken as they are supposed to or if abused.

Amen to that. I was cut off my adderall a few weeks ago cold turkey, and my god, that was one of the worst times in my life. I slept for days and just felt terrible. Withdrawl symptoms were severe and I either slept for 3 days at a time or just cried 3 days at a time.

After that I began to question my doctors medical schooling.my doctor tells me that there's no proof that taking days off  meds lowers your tolerance,  which i can't beleive is true. i tell him my focus is not the same as it was a few months ago when i was on the 20xr. now i'm on 20 ir in the morning and 10ir in the afternoon, i was on 20 and 20 but i had a problem getting sleep. he wants to keep me on adderall and he refuses to change my meds. this guy's a shmuck!!! I think that having a doctor who is on ADD/ADHD meds himself would be way more understanding and help than someone who has just studied it and read about it.

Hands on experience beats book reading, especially at something that varies from person to person such as these types of meds.
